The Machinery

"Snufkin?"

"Moomintroll? What's up?"

The cat male tiredly murmured, his eyes barely half-open.
Moomin closed his eyes again and with a sigh, he nuzzled the masculine fellow.

"Just wanted to make sure you were still here."

Snufkin wrapped his arms around Moomintroll but he didn't stay awake for long.
Snufkins hair was tangled up and messy and his cheeks red.
Moomin ran his paw down Snufkins arm, feeling his warm, soft skin.
"You are gorgeous" Was all Moomintroll could get out.
The sleeping mumrik didn't say anything, but a smile formed upon his lips.

Moomin placed his head back down onto the pillow, closing his eyes as well as the familiar sound of Snufkins breathing could once more be appreciated.

The sun was peeking in through the window even though the curtains covered most of it.
That didn't seem to stop the light from squeezing through the tiny gap between the curtains.

The troll sat up in the bed, rubbing his eyes as a yawn escaped him.

The pitiable being beefed and he naturally looked around.

You could tell it was noon. The birds were chirping, Snufkins blanket was hanging by the end of the mattress, and there were bumblebees eagerly bumping their heads against the window.

If you think about it, bumblebees are just tiny, underrated teddy bears. Poor things,

The troll thought to himself but shivered at the thought of it.

They are small and cute, yet they manage to intimidate me, just like Little My.

"Mnn. Moomintroll" The man next to him mumbled, nuzzling his friend close.

The soft pillow-alike creature giggled in a flustered tone.

"Goodmorning, Snufkin"

"Moomintroll" The handsome traveler replied with his eyes half-open.

"You seem alert"

"I had a strange dream," the mumrik whispered with a blank expression. Their eyes met but something was off.

Snufkin didn't seem to be there. As if only a shell was left of him.

"The sky was gray, the air dry, almost non existant. The clouds were dark, and," Snufkin paused for a bit, glancing at the window.

"The screams"

"What screams?"

"I don't know. They were horrible, though." The normally relaxed mumrik got out of bed and opened up the curtains, revealing a beautiful and hot summer day.

Snufkin was quiet, too quiet. He was frightened, you could tell.

Moomintroll joined Snufkin, holding him close.

"I understand. Some nightmares hit differently. I am here if you want to talk it out"

The poet shook his head as he shut his eyes, sighing deeply.

"Thanks but no thanks. I do not want to think of it right now"

With a nod the troll nuzzled the other close.

"Snufkin?"

"Hm, Moomintroll?"

"I love you,"  the soft and squishy troll whispered with a bright smile.
"more than anything else."
Snufkin leaned on the windowsill, using his hand to rub one of his eyes.

"I love you too."

Fast Forward,

During the breakfast Snufkin barely touched his food.
Moomin figured he simply needed some time to take it all in.
He did take a couple sips of the tea Moominmamma made though.

The others noticed his odd behavior but chose not to address it.

Throughout the day the two of them went on an adventure together to a mountain close by.

It was great and all
But,
You could tell Snufkin was in an entirely different world.
Moomin never truly met his gaze.

His eyes used to reflect his soul.
Now all that's left is the shell of the person who Moomin fell for.

Ever since that incident Snufkin grew tired. He'd nap once or twice a day and sleep through the night.
Moomin suspected that the nightmares had returned because of the whining escaping his boyfriend during the nights.

Something that Snufkin came to speak of alot was the machinery. The goddamn machinery.

It took form of the woods. That's what he said.
It had stolen nature's colors and made them it's own.

Trees fell to the ground and the ground it walked was torn from all life.
What a cruel fate.
