Breaths of air broke the nights quite, silent footfalls hitting the dead leaves on the forest floor. The moon cast an eerie glow on the foliage, the branches were whipped and snapped from being run through relentlessly.

A woman tripped, clutching her precious bundle tighter to her chest, she couldn't let harm fall on it. She speed up when she had gotten her footing back. Trying her best to keep distance between her and the beast, for that was the only thing she could think to call it. Even that didn't really describe the thing chasing her.

She desperately speed up when she felt cold, icy breath on her neck.
Finally she saw human life, a road was up ahead, light shining on the paved area.

Finally, she would have thought but that was not to be, what with the beat speeding up. Pushing her self to go faster her feet hit the paved road, the unsmooth surface making her feet raw and red. Her souls pealing with every step.

Minutes later or even hours, she couldn't be sure, she entered a town. Every child and adult asleep. Those few who weren't were blissfully unaware still of the struggle unfolding. Turning left, right, left, straight, and backtracking she tried to shake off the beast.

And she did, but only for a few precious minutes. Moving to a porch she set her burden down. Only for her to look at the babe's face. Skin that shows a slight tan, and hair a beautiful sand blond showed off from the babe.

"My child, you will survive. And you will have a wonderful life. I love you.". The words came out in a hurried whisper. Kissing the child's brow she reached up and unclasped her necklace. Placing it around the babe's head she whispered a prayer.

Than the next second she was gone.

Leaving the child on that doorstep. Never to know his mother.

He lay there all night, into the chilly morning air. Until he was awoken by a muffled scream.
