•ZINNIA• INTRODUCTION•
Anandita, hopped around the kitchen wearing a faded apron, which she stitched out of her old midi dress. She struggled to make a hearty breakfast, which was quite difficult considering her disagreeable cooking skills. Ten minutes later staring down at the omelette, her eyes shined with proud. Had it been 18 months ago, when she first moved out of her home, the omelette would never look appetizing.
Glancing at the clock on the pale wall she noticed it’s time to wake her up. She tiptoed to the only bedroom of the rented apartment and peeked through the curtain to admire the one-year-old sleeping with a serene smile on her face.
Anandita gently sat beside her and patted her head. She couldn’t help but giggle at the birthday girl who made faces at the sudden disturbance. She opened her sleepy brown eyes and cheekily smiled at her mommy.“Good morning, Swara. How was your sleep”, Anandita asked in a baby voice, while nodding her head, knowing well that Swara still cannot speak anything, other than gibberish baby words.
She picked up a smiling Swara, as her eyes get teary thinking about all the humiliation the mother-daughter duo have to go through. She glanced at the single zinnia in her vase. When Swara was born, Anandita wanted to name her Zinnia, a beauty with amazing enduring powers. But soon, she changed her mind. She would never let her get hurt.
She would be the zinnia of Swara’s life, enduring all the sandstorm and frosts alone, she would protect Swara from the World.
