The coast was clear, Kazama, crouching behind the children's slide in the park, heaved a sigh of relief.

He was already late for tuition and if Shin Chan saw him then, forget tuition, he wouldn't be able to get anything done that day.

He slung his bag back around his neck, and had moved only a few paces when he heard the familiar voice calling after him.

"Toru!"

Grunting in annoyance, he turned to see Shin Chan running up to him, his raven hair looking like they had never been touched by a comb in their sixteen years of existence. When they were kids, his mother had it cropped short as it used to get into his eyes but now that he was older, he had grown them out.

His tanned face was split in a perpetual grin and his eyes sparkled dangerously, causing Kazama to step back a little, wary of what he was up to now. "I told you not to call me Toru."

"But that's your name, isn't it?" Shin Chan asked, the utter personification of innocence.

When Kazama glared at him, he sighed dramatically, "All right, whatever you say Kazama."

"In that case, I say that you should go home and leave me alone," Kazama snapped, turned around and walked away, or at least tried to.

Catching up to him, Shin Chan threw his arm around his shoulders and hung off of them as if holding on to dear life. He had his other hand on his heart and he cried, "How you wound me. I thought we were best friends!"

"That was a long time ago and even then we weren't best friends. All you do is annoy me, distract me-"

"Wait, I am a distraction?" Shin Chan interrupted, grinning like the idiot Kazama always told him that he was.

Kazama's neck turned scarlet and he grew silent.

Not getting a reply, Shin Chan leaned in closer than they already were and whispered in his ear, "You distract me too, Toru." Then slowly blew air into his ear making his best friend shiver.

"I'm going to kill you, Shin Chan!" Kazama roared as Shin Chan backed away laughing hysterically.

"You gotta catch me first!" He stuck out his tongue at him and ran away, Kazama close on his heels, as if they were five year olds again. Hit by a sudden sense of nostalgia, Shin Chan hoped that they would never change, but also knew that it was impossible.
