Entering the portal should have been easy but it posed a greater challenge than expected. It was like walking into another room, a door being the only way through. Usually you walk through a door with the intent to emerge in a new environment, getting from A to B in mere seconds. Well, that's what should have happened. Instead when the angel tried to enter he was instantly rejected entry as the portal hissed like a leak in a gas pipe and morphed into a guarded shell of purple as if warning him to stay back. Deku frowned, hesitating. Somehow Todoroki had managed to pass through the portal without any trouble. The portal didn't change colour or hiss at him like it did to Deku. This was odd, very odd. Suddenly a head forced it's way out of the portal and two dual eyes stared at the angel dripping with annoyance and hints of concern.

"Midoriya, maybe I wasn't clear enough. We need to hurry."
"I know, I know! I'm trying but it won't work."
"What in Tenebris do you mean 'it won't work'?"

Deku placed a hand onto the portal. His skin began to burn up the second he did so, Todoroki paled. Deku held his pulsing hand while he allowed a tear to fall down his face, dripping onto his burnt skin. He looked like a child, that much was apparent. Crying in front of a demon who was trying to help, hadn't his mother taught him better. The palm of his hand and the skin on his fingers blossomed with unimaginable pain that he had never felt before. Todoroki wasn't helping the situation with his panicked face poking out of the portal in question. They waited for a moment, not because it would help in Deku's favor but so that Todoroki could find his self control. By the time he did, Deku's arm was swelling but at least the pain died down. "You'll have to make your own portal." Todoroki told him as though it were the only way; the angel was beginning the think it was. He nodded, taking the piece of paper Todoroki handed him. The demon gave one final warning before disappearing into the portal, "Don't let your mind wander from the apartment, the second you do you will find yourself somewhere else like before. Keep your head clear and have a lucid vision of your destination." And with that he was gone, the portal closing behind him like a curtain.

Deku was alone now, the paper Todoroki had given him clutched ever so tightly in his grip. Quickly he unfolded the paper and scribbled a pentagram as if he had done it a thousand times before. the first line of the star that will soon stand as a piece of the pentagram had been drawn then the next.

"Nearly there." Deku tried to convince himself.

The next two lines of the star were harder as his pen was running out. He shook the pen and luckily there was still some ink left. The last line was finally drawn on the page, now for the number. Deku bit his lip in an attempt conceal his excitement, an illusion of maintaining composure that he knew he did not have. For his first time summoning something as energy draining as a portal he did well. He wrote the number one on the page only to find that his pen had given up at the last moment. A bead of sweat slid down his face. Scratch that, maybe he wasn't doing so well. "Come on!" He panicked. If someone found him they would surely think he was not in the right state of mind. I mean, who wouldn't freak out at an angel hiding in an alleyway in the middle of Hell screaming in hushed whispers at a piece of paper and a useless pen that couldn't do it's job. It was pure madness. He needed to stay quiet.

A noise from behind him brought Deku back into reality. It sounded like wind being swatted away. A crow. Its beady eyes of unadulterated fierceness searched for a weakness. The crow flapped both wings as a warning, stretching each one out as far as the horizon to show a dominance that was anything but natural. Dark like midnight, each feather gleamed from the light of the moon. Deku gasped, pushing his back to the wall as he scrambled to write the number '1' on the paper. The crow squawked. There was no escape, he was in for it now. It's eyes glowed a dangerous red practically daring the angel to take another step. No way in Hell was this thing real, it had to be a toy of sorts, under the control of another. Todoroki should have warned him of their hostility. From afar the crows were like cameras watching without any motivation to move. Now though the malevolence trapped inside the small animal was crystal clear masked by obsidian feathers and wide eyes full of venom that no person could run from.

The moment the crow squawked for the second time Deku had finished summoning a portal. A white mass formed next to the two, clouds of white swirling into the center of the portal like a vortex. Deku stared in wonder at what he created. Purity saturated deep within the atoms of the portal, and unlike any of the portals he had seen so far in Hell, this one was different, beautiful even. He was sure he drew a pentagram and not a golden ring so how did this happen, he wondered. It was bright, so bright in fact that the crow screeched and shielded its eyes. This was his chance. Deku held his breath and closed his eyes. Before the crow had time to notice, he slipped into the portal, vanishing without a trace and leaving the crow alone in the alleyway with nothing but the sound of water dripping from the gutters above to keep it company.

If he could, Deku would be fiddling. Unfortunately for him the force of traveling through the portal was quite binding as he couldn't move his limbs far. He hoped the crow hadn't seen Todoroki because he wasn't sure if he could save him like he did with Kirishima. The red headed demon was close, barely a couple of walls away. The plan to save him was a simple one that didn't require trying to avoid the Blood Bath tournament.

Wait, the tournament. Tomorrow will be the last day before the Blood Bath starts. "I need to get back home." Deku reached forward. The portal broke like a crack forming in a wall, the other side was visible now. In front of him three silhouettes stood at different heights in the center of the living room. Home.

NOTES:
Most won't like the song at the top but it is my new favourite. Just give it a go. Also I know Todoroki is useless here, he doesn't know what to do when he's scared.

Bonus: The very last word has a LOT of meaning in the next chapter. Deku saying "home" will change their lives and when he returns, there will be a surprise waiting for them all. You will have to wait for the next update to find out what happens.
