Eliminating screen time for family time, hard but not impossible. Start with the small things and ease into the bigger problems at hand. Instead of sitting in front of a giant sixty-five inch screen television eating microwave dinner or all alone in your bedroom, have a real family dinner. Decide a time in the evening to gather at the dining room table for a nice homemade meal. A time to talk about the day, struggles, achievement. Most of all a time to connect. Make a rule to keep all electrictonics away from the table.
There's no quick way to make a meal for a family. A good meal takes time and patience. Spend at least thirty minutes to cook a meal for everyone will enjoy together. Make a diverse choice of side dishes and full of nutrition for the hard days ahead. If your short on hands on the days your kids are home, all of you can work together to prepare dinner and maybe some desert. A good time to teach the importance of food and a good family recipe to share. A tradition in the making.
