Prologue
The light took up my vision, making me blind. I whined and cried as my vision became normal. Two things were looking down at me. I was too little to know what they were, though. I felt cold and scared. I continued to cry.
"Ever, she's beautiful!" said one of them. They were white and navy blue with light red eyes.
The other one smiled. They were black and gray with sharp teeth. "I know she is." they said.
"What should we name her?"
"Hmm... How about Opal?"
"Opal? I love it!" The white one looked down closer at me. My vision was still slightly blurry. "Hi there Opal. I'm your mother, Mercy," she said in a gentle voice.
"I'm your father, Ever," said the other, grinning.
My whines became less frequent and loud. Mercy reached down and licked my forehead, putting me at ease. My eye lids felt heavy. I yawned, then closed my eyes. After a few seconds, I faded into slumber.
