"Look who woke up on the right side of the bed this morning!" Ava beamed as she grinned back at Rose, one of her closest friends.

"You like?" Ava asked, spinning in a circle.

"Very much. You look incredible. And you're actually wearing make-up! I knew you weren't a lost cause!" Rose grinned. "Come, sit." She patted the seat beside her.

Ava slid into the chair next to her smiling. "So if I'm allowed to sit here I take it Luke isn't in this class?"

"What's that suppose to mean?"

"Well you two are pretty inseperable."

"Well if you had a boyfriend I'd bet you'd understand." Rose stuck her tounge out, teasingly. "And no, Luke's too, and I quote, 'smart for simply an honors class.' He thinks he's all that."

"That's Luke for you. I don't know how you ever got asked out by someone so popular and smart and athletic." Ava teased, knowing her friend's boyfriend could be very self-centered.

Rose blushed. "I told you! I... Well... Uh... It was complicated."

"That's one way to put it. Anyways, how was your summer?" Ava asked, twirling a strand of her hair.

"Pretty average. Lots of relaxing at home, shopping at the mall, you know, the normal. How was yours?"

"I didn't see the sunlight until today." Ava grinned.

Rose's eyebrows raised. "I thought you were going to practice fencing?"

Ava let the strand of her hair drop and looked down at the desk. "I don't know that I'm going to continue that anymore."

"Wait, why?" Rose gasped. "You're so good!"

"Well I'm kind of tired of it. I meant to practice this summer but everytime I considered going to the club I just didn't want to."

Rose looked at her closely. "So you aren't going to tryouts today?"

Ava  sighed. "I mean I was planning on going." At Rose's puzzled expression she continued, "I was just going to try and fail so I don't make the team."

"Then why go at all?"

"Because I don't want Avery to think I'm abandoning her. She's already upset by my change in appearance."

"But isn't that what you're doing? Abandoning her?"

Ava was saved from answering by the bell ringing. She immediately looked up at her history teacher.

"Alright juniors, welcome back to Woodrow High. I'm your history teacher for the year, Mrs. Stark. No Game of Throne jokes please, I assure you I've heard them all. Now this course will center around American history with great focus on the two World Wars." She was interrupted by the door opening. A tall blonde haired boy stepped into the room grinning. "And you might be?" Mrs. Stark asked.

"Well I know for certain I'm late." The class laughed and the boy smirked. "But my name's Sean. Sean Downs."

Mrs. Stark looked at him sternly. "Mr. Downs, tardiness is not appreciated in this class. Nor is comedy. Take an empty seat. As I was saying, my name is Mrs. Stark."

Sean's grin grew broader. "I've always preferred the Targaryens myself, but you know what they say: winter is coming." Once more the class errupted into laughter.

"Mr. Downs, if you will take your seat now." Mrs. Stark glared at him. He grinned at her and then headed towards the nearest empty seat. The seat next to Ava. Ava blushed as he sat down next to her. "Now as I was saying, we shall be covering serious issues in history and I want complete respect, especially when we cover topics like the holocaust."
