10: Words Meet Heartbeats

"Baby, we're going to be so late if we don't get going" Jack yelled as I ran out of the room tugging on a jacket.

"I'm sorry, I totally lost track of time. The little one is making me so tired and sluggish" I pouted my lip out.

"I know, I know maybe the doctor will have some recommendations" he smiled at me as I reached up and kissed him quickly.

"Hopefully you're right" I smiled, taking his hand. "Now let's get going, I'm so excited"

We finally had an ultrasound planned, one that both Jack and I were available for. He made sure to make it clear he wanted to be there, especially for the first one.

"They'll be in for you shortly" the nurse smiled before leaving.

While we waited for the tech, Jack smiled over at me.

"What?" I asked him in a confused, yet joking manner.

"You're not doing anything tonight right?"

"Not that I can think of, why? Everything ok?" I questioned him.

"Yeah, everything's fine. I just thought since I'm free tonight, we should have a redo" he looked so hopeful.

"A redo?"

"Yeah, a redo of our date" he smiled widely.

"We still got to go on our date silly" I giggled.

"Not how we wanted to. We never got our big, grand date where we dress nice, go somewhere special, gush over each other all night, you know the perfect night" he explained.

"I think any night I get to spend with you is the perfect night, but I'm down for whatever you want to do" I smiled as the tech came in, ready to start the ultrasound.

"Are we wanting pictures today?" She looked at us both. Wand in hand ready to start.

"Absolutely" both Jack and I said at the same time before sharing a smile.

She went along, pointing things out to us and making sure we got the most out of the ultrasound.

"Final question" she looked at us seriously. "You guys want to try to hear the heartbeat? It's a little early but we can always try"

I looked towards Jack and the instant I saw his face, I knew the answer.

"Yes please" I smiled sweetly at the tech.

It took a minute before the sound of a heartbeat filled the room.

"That's...amazing" Jack looked at the screen in awe.

"I can't believe it, it's beautiful" I broke my gaze at the screen and turned to Jack. "Isn't it beautiful?"

"The most beautiful" he smiled at me, planting a kiss to the top of my head.

"And you're all done, doctor will be in in just a minute for any questions you have" she smiled as we thanked her.

We talked about how amazing it was being able to see the baby on the ultrasound until the doctor came in and answered all our questions and sent us off when we were comfortable.

"Well then, what do you say?" Jack asked, slipping his hand in mine as we walked to the car.

"About our redo?" He nodded his head at me. "I'm all in for a romantic night with you"

"Great, we'll leave at 7...I got some plans to make when we get home" he smirked towards me.

"Suddenly, I'm both anxious and terrified" I joked, laughing as Jack rolled his eyes while getting in the car.

As I was getting ready there was a knock at the bathroom door.

"Everything ok?" I asked opening the door to Jack's smiling face.

"Just checking in on my beautiful girl" he kissed my cheek quickly. "We're ready to go whenever you are"

"I'm ready" I turned to him with a smile after tying my hair up.

"Let's do it" he held his hand out that I gladly took.

"I can not wait for this food" I giggled after the waitress had taken our order and disappeared.

"How's our little peanut behaving for you?" He beamed.

"They're just super hungry" I ran a hand over my belly.

"You feeling ok?" He took my hand in his.

"Amazing, you?" I gripped his hand a bit.

"Same" he smiled wider. "I did want to ask you something though" he shifted nervously.

"Oh, umm. Ok, what's up?" My nerves rising myself.

"Well, I know it's only our first official official date but ummm" he trailed off.

"Babe" I gave his hand a shake.

"Yeah sorry umm..." he seemed to pull himself together and give me a small smile. "How do you feel about officially being my girlfriend?" He looked at me expectantly.

"Jack, baby" I breathed a laugh. "That's what you're so nervous about? I thought you were going to end this" I explained with a hand over my chest.

"What? No never" he laughed.

"Of course I'll officially be your girlfriend, you didn't even really need to ask" I laughed again.

"But I wanted to, I wanted to do this right" he gripped my hand hard.

"I love you" I smiled widely, reaching over the table and kissing him softly.

"I love you too" he grinned. "Both of you"
