Trust in Love

Chapter 14

Justine didn't know how she made it work the next morning. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying and she couldn't concentrate on anything. She felt sick to her stomach at the thought of never being with Jared again.

'Wow. You're a mess,' Nigel stated kindly when he got to the office. 'My brother's not much better. I don't know what happened between you two and it's none of my business. Do you think you'll be able to handle your work today?'

Justine nodded.

'I need to stay busy,' she replied.

'Good,' Nigel said. 'I've got some notes that need transcribing.'

That night, Justine phoned Ada and told her everything that happened. Her mother was surprisingly sympathetic. Now that Justine was married, it seemed like she could do no wrong.

She told Ada that she didn't feel right staying in Jared's house alone. Her mother told her she could move back in with her if she wanted.

'Really?' Justine cried, surprised.

'It's been lonely without you,' Ada replied. 'I have nobody to watch t.v. with.'

'And it's okay that I'm probably going to get divorced?' Justine asked nervously.

'You were married. That's the main thing,' Ada replied.

Justine would never understand her mom's logic.

The next day after work Justine moved back to Ada's house. She phoned Jared's office and told his assistant that Jared could have his house back. She didn't expect any kind of a response from him and she wondered if she would have to find a lawyer soon.

It felt strange being back at her mom's house. It was hard for her to give up her newfound freedom. But it was comforting to have someone else to talk to. Her mom kept her busy with her t.v. schedule and doing things around the house. She still cried herself to sleep every night, though. She regretted every decision she made when it came to Jared. Every single one. In many ways she wished she had never met him.
