Six Months Later

It was time for the university gala again. This time Justine was prepared for it. She found a gown that was a bit glittery but simply elegant at the same time. She went with Sandy to the salon and got her hair professionally done. Jared looked handsome in his tuxedo, as usual.

'Have I told you how beautiful you look?' he asked as he drove them to the campus.

'Once when I came downstairs and once when I got into the car,' she replied, giggling.

'I can't help it,' Jared said, chuckling. 'I'm a proud husband. Sue me.'

Justine smiled and looked out the window. She unconsciously put her hand on her abdomen. It was getting rounder every day. She was four months pregnant and she was starting to show.

'Are you feeling okay?' Jared asked in a worried tone.

'I'm fine,' she replied quickly.

'You were quite sick for a while,' Jared stated.

'Mom thinks I'm having a girl because of how sick I've been,' Justine replied. Her mom was very excited about the baby. She was full of advice and couldn't wait to be a grandmother.

'I guess we'll find out for sure next month,' Jared said. 'I don't care if it's a boy or a girl, so long as it's healthy.'

'I agree,' Justine replied. Secretly she was hoping for a boy just like Jared. Her mom had told her that boys were easier to raise.

Jared parked the car and they got out. He offered her his arm and they walked toward the activity centre.

'Before we go inside, there's something I want to tell you,' Jared said seriously.

'Okay,' Justine said nervously.

He turned to face her and she looked in his eyes. He caressed her cheek.

'I love you, Mrs. Compton,' he said, looking deep into her eyes.

'I love you, too,' she replied, leaning in to his touch.

He took her in his arms and kissed her passionately, oblivious to the other people around them. That was the way true love should be.
