His heart wasn't beating.

"Gajeel, please. Wake up!"
Levy placed her hands on his chest, careful not to touch the still-bleeding burn, and pushed. Push, push, push, push. Nothing was waking Gajeel from his deathly sleep. She pressed an ear to his chest and her eyes grew wide.

The only option left was... mouth to mouth.

She blushed insanely and pushed some hair behind her ear. H-he won't know. Right?
She blushed harder, but pushed the nervousness to the back of her mind. He needs help now.

I can't keep wasting time!

Deep breaths in, Levy, deep deep breaths. She bit her lip, and shakily placed her mouth atop his. Pinching his bleeding nose to prevent any waste of air, she opened her mouth and blew. Her ribs hurt, sharp pain ripping through her upper body with each breath.

Come on Gajeel, please wake up!

Tears began to build in her eyes, both from pain and fear of Gajeel not re-gaining consciousness ever again. "Please wake up!" She leaned down and pressed her mouth against his once more, blowing air into his lungs. A single tear fell onto his bleeding cheek, causing a flinch.

This went unnoticed by Levy Mcgarden, who kept pumping Gajeels chest. She reattached her mouth to his lips, and shrieked when his lips began moving in the same rhythm as hers.
"G-G-Gajeel!" She screeched with burning cheeks.

"Hey, Shrimp." Gajeel breathed, still slightly out of breath. He smiled weakly up at the tiny bluenette girl, and laughed. "Gee-hee!"
His smile... His smile made Levy's heart beat fast. Very, very fast.

How long had he been awake?
How long had he been aware of what was happening?
These thoughts burned on her cheeks as she blushed.

Then, tears filled her eyes and she weakly beat on his chest.

"You jerk! I thought you were dead! You scared me to death, baka!"
She sobbed, lowering her hands and holding onto the tattered remains of his shirt.
"I was afraid of losing you, you idiot. Don't you dare laugh like that. Don't you dare."

Gajeel was shocked. He found himself feeling elated at the worry of the little woman crying on his chest and wrapped her in his arms as gingerly as he could.
"What makes you think I would leave you to walk home by yourself, Shrimp?"

He closed his eyes and smiled.
The warmth of Levy's trembling frame sunk into his aching body, soothing the pain from Xavier's blows.
"You idiot, Gajeel..."
She sniffed and looked up at him with pathetic glistening eyes.

"I should kill you myself, for scaring me like that..!"
Once again, she gently pounded on Gajeel's bloody body.
She had gotten so caught up in her annoyance and relief that had forgotten that he needed real medical attention, and he needed it fast.

"Can you stand?" She asked quietly, resting a petite hand on his shoulder

Gajeel nodded and swayed drunkenly to his feet.
"May need to lean on you, Shrimp." He said. Levy nodded and positioned herself under his arm, acting as a crutch for her crippled companion.

Together they hobbled into the city of Hinamizowa to search for an infirmary.
Once they found one, Gajeel stopped.

"Before we go in, let me ask you something." He said, staring straight at their transparent reflections in the glass.
Levy looked expectantly up at him, waiting for his question.

"What made you think you could handle him by yourself?" Her brown orbs widened at his question, asked so suddenly and so full of annoyance.
"Xavier isn't someone that somebody with your power could handle alone. So, why did you do it?"

Levy lowered her gaze to look at the paved path below their boots, dusted with a light coating of dirt and grass.

"I honestly don't know. When you went down– when I thought he killed you– something inside of my chest snapped, and I just acted on my emotions, I suppose." She muttered, furrowing her brow.
The sigh that left Gajeel's cracked lips lead her to believe he was about to call her stupid, dumb shrimp, reckless, anything of that sort. But instead, he just plopped a hand down on her head.

This action made her eyes snap up to meet his.

"And you call me an idiot? You could've been killed." Gajeel staggered as he leaned down to her height, not removing his hand from her head, and laid his forehead on hers. The blush that colored Levy's cheeks could've made eggs fry.
"I'm sorry..." She murmured, looking down once again at the dirtied road.

"Good. Don't ever do anything that reckless ever again."
He smiled a goofy smile and nodded toward the infirmary doors.

"Let's get checked up, Shrimp."
