Unexpectedly Acquainted

Author's Note: Can this be considered angst? I don't think it can ^^; But oh well, here's another drabble (can 700 words even be considered a drabble?) which is a bit more light-hearted than anything else!

Wen Ruohan was a busy man. Expanding his territories, subduing the neighboring clans and running his own sect were just a few of his duties. That's why he had to be efficient and expected the same for everyone else, but this pathetic excuse for a human was wasting his precious time.

"Get to the point," he snaps.

To his horror, the bumbling fool stutters more. Wen Ruohan rubs at his forehead, temper slowly fraying. Why was he surrounded with incompetent idiots?

"I—There's a-an—i-in the w-west—"

If this useless guard stutters one more time, then he swears on Wen Mao's name that he will murder him and his entire family, he thinks sourly.

"T-The i-intruder i-is—uhm—"

He snarls, "Are you purposely seeking death?"

The inept buffoon furiously shakes his head.

"Then get someone here who can actually explain and make yourself scarce."

The blundering dunce quickly leaves. Wen Ruohan massages his head and waits. After a whole five minutes [oh, he was definitely going to kill that imbecile] did someone else arrive and explain. It only served to sour his mood further.

An intruder had slithered its way in and his astute guards had decided its place was in the infirmary and not the dungeons as it should have been.

Wen Ruohan was going to murder somebody that day. Many somebodys.

The first thing Wen Ruohan noticed was that the sheer beauty of the intruder. [What? Regardless of what other says, he can appreciate beauty] Then he noticed the red eyes glaring at him. [Eyes that were a bit too familiar to him.]

Wen Ruohan merely stared at him impassively. He wasn't new to hatred nor was he going to ask for his backstory. If anything, he was more interested in how an injured man had managed to sneak into his territory which was so heavily guarded?

"Who are you?"

The man didn't respond and looked away.

Wen Ruohan almost dragged him to the Fire Palace for his insolence. But then he thought of the mountain of paperwork in his room and decided that this took more importance. After all, this intruder being here meant that his security was somehow lacking and Wen Ruohan needed to get to the root of it. His paperwork could wait.

For some reason, Wen Ruohan hadn't yet killed his silent intruder. Seeing the man's eyes [Just where had he seen those eyes before?] turn from silver to red at his arrival was fascinating. He would definitely get to the root of this.

He delegated the paperwork to Wen Xu.

Wen Ruohan does not know how much he believes his men's theory of time-travelling, but even he can't deny recognizing parts of the strange talisman where the intruder had been found.

If any of his former friends had been here, they would have been ecstatic at this discovery. In particular Cangse Sanren who would've then dragged Lan Qiren and oh, now he knows why those eyes had been familiar.

"You're Changse Sanren's son, aren't you? You look like her."

Silver eyes locked onto cold red ones so quickly that the other wondered if the potential time-traveler had snapped his neck. That would have been a pitiful way to die. Not to mention, ridiculous.

As it is, the man merely raised his eyebrows at the shell shocked look.

"Your mother did visit here. She was after all a rogue."

Here, he paused and considered something. Eventually, he settled on a decision.

"Did Jiang Fengmian never tell you about her?"

A gamble, but one that answered his question as he received a definitive shake of the head. [From his latest spy reports, the head disciple of YunmengJiang was still in Lotus Pier.]

Pursuing his lips, the man thought. It really wasn't that surprising to be honest. Everyone knew of the Violet Spider's distaste of the Weis. Who didn't?

And yet, he couldn't help but feel pity for the vulnerable looking man in front of him. [Oh, how looks could be deceiving. Wen Ruohan could undeniably feel the power radiating from him.] Dying without knowing a thing about your parents was a sad and miserable fate.

"She was gorgeous..." and for once, Wen Ruohan couldn't help but wonder how it had come to this even as he regaled the child with stories of his parents. The wonder in his eyes warred with mistrust and hatred.

Oh well, Wen Ruohan could ask questions later. They had plenty of time.

Author's Note: Uhhh.... I have no idea where I was going with this. It was supposed to be about the cruelty of Wen Ruohan but.. this happened. Somehow.
