The sunlight that descended under the clouds shone through her window and hit her straight in the face, blinding her vision until she blinked it away rapidly. Reaching out a hand to tilt close her curtains, she caught sight of a dull reflection in the glass of the window.

She snapped her gaze to the full length mirror that stood against her wall, and she nervously twirled her body around on the spot, admiring the look to her new uniform.

It was beyond an understatement to say she was nervous.

And why wouldn't she be?

Starting a new school in the middle of the year wasn't exactly what you'd call normal

But when had Briella Wood ever been normal?

Her life had always been outshone by her older brother, the famous Oliver Wood who had been an exceptional student, achieved the very top grades in school, won the Quidditch Cup in his final year as Gryffindor Keeper and got a place on the Puddlemere United Quidditch team.

There was no doubt Briella loved her brother.

But when you hadn't even performed a single inch of magic until you were 15, refused a wand at Ollivanders and practically labelled a Squib your whole life, you'd feel a little bitter towards those who always did well.

Briella was sure there wasn't a bit of magic in her, and everyone in her family had tried to incite a sense of wizardry within her. Her mother had pushed her off her balcony, in hopes some kind of spell would immediately spark to save her life. No luck. She'd suffered three broken bones, a fractured collarbone and her back had never been the same after that. Her father had encouraged her to use his wand to perform some magic, even though that wasn't technically allowed. No luck. Literally nothing had happened. Her brother had countlessly tried to levitate her on a broomstick. No luck. She hadn't even managed to get two feet in the air.

She was an embarrassment to her family.

Scratch that, she was an embarrassment to the whole of the wizarding world.

So when she'd received a letter, in the middle of what should've been her fifth year at Hogwarts, Briella was beyond shocked, and her family ... she'd never seen anybody more esctatic.

She wondered what had made Dumbledore change his mind about her, or what had she done, five years later than most, to deserve her Hogwarts letter.

Disregarding her doubts, Briella was happy as well, and she had celebrated with her family, amid the rapid packing of her trunk and her owl in order to make the quick journey to Hogwarts.

It had only been one month since the start of the school so her parents were reassured that she hadn't missed much. But Briella was scared. She could recite every spell of by heart, but despite the acceptance at the wizarding school, she knew there was something inside of her that stopped her from performing magic.

What if she got to Hogwarts and she was still unable to use magic?

Would they send her home?

Had Dumbledore just made a mistake?

She would soon find out.
