heartbreak girl [enhypen jay]

stuck in the friend zone again and again

jay and y/n had been best friends for years now. they always spent time with each other and people assumed that they're together. their families have become one already because of their bond and the pair even promised to live near each other, if not together, once they grow up. that's why everyone they knew got surprised when y/n introduced huening kai as her partner.

after all, wasn't it jay?

jay have always found her attractive, but if anyone asks if she is; he says otherwise. he constantly teases her, but they have never been in a fight to the point of no talking and becoming stangers. he will never let that happen.

y/n had always been caring. whenever jay got hurt, she'd fight those who hurt him and then treat his wounds. whenever she can, she'll cook for him and even fix his hair. during the holidays, his birthdays especially, she'd always give him a letter. if she had little money, she'd treat him ice cream.

he was around thirteen-years-old when he realized he loved her. love her as in he actually wanted to have a future with her. jay couldn't think of anyone else perfect for a wife but y/n. sadly, though, y/n didn't feel the same way.

when jay was ready to finally admit what he feels, that's when he came around. huening kai: the douchebag. he always felt that the guy's bad news, but he never saw y/n look that happy before. and, even if it hurt him, he let her be.

it took huening kai a couple months before y/n finally agreed to be his girlfriend and after three years, he broke up with her. y/n cared for him like she did for jay, maybe more, and loved him a lot. she did all the things he asked except for one thing.

"i refused because i don't want to do it unless i'm married."

"he should respect that."

"he said he does."

"but, hasn't he been different around you now?"

"yeah" she sighed, "maybe he just needs a little space then it will all be okay."

"maybe"

jay knows that that's the reason why her ex had become different. huening kai can't keep his dick in his pants and can't respect y/n's decision.

it has now been a couple of months since the breakup and y/n seems to be doing a lot better. she's been smiling a lot and had been going out with jay to different ice cream parlors and coffee shops. he knows how long it takes for y/n to finally heal, and how having someone with her would help her a lot, that's why he had been spending a lot of time with her ever since she called.

and ever since they've been together, he's been rebuilding the courage to finally tell her how he felt.

it's already midnight but he knows for sure that y/n's still awake, so he called her. "y/n, i have a confession"

"yeah?"

"i... well, i have loved you for a very long time now and i- i don't know. i want to prove that i really do love you." he gulped, nervousness taking over him. "i love you more than just a best friend."

y/n felt conflicted. it's true that she loves jay, but she doesn't know whether or not she loves him as a friend or more. isn't it too early, though? she thought, i just started to feel okay, am i sure i'm ready to be in another relationship? one with my very best friend?

the only thing she knows right now is that she wants to have him in her life forever.

"jay, you know that i love you." she said quietly, "but, i honestly don't know if i'm ready yet."

"i see."

"jay, i–"

"i know, i know. i'm not mad or anything, okay? i understand. i'll still be here for you. don't worry."

"okay"

"okay"

"um, i'll call you tomorrow at ten."

"alright, i'll be expecting the call."

"goodnight, jay."
