Two is Better than One

Chapter 3

Samantha laughed softly as she listened to her twin brother make a fool of himself in front of the new detective, Juliet O'Hara. The brunette liked the blonde, she was nice, a bit shy, and Samantha thought, very pretty.

They had sent her in undercover as a look out so they could catch their suspect off guard. And all Shawn was concerned with was the fact that the newest addition to the SBPD was in his usual seat and flirting with her.

And as soon as the suspect walked in, Shawn made Juliet. Samantha and Lassiter looked at each other, waiting for a good point to storm in. Right then, they heard the blonde detective over their earpieces.
"Okay, Shawn, I may need you to do me a favor."
"Name it."
"Duck!"

The two detectives outside nodded and moved in. They entered the diner to see two other officers restraining the suspect. Lassiter shouted, "Gun! Go!"

Soon after, the guy started to protest. The brunette detective looked over at the blonde to check on her, as this was her first big case here in Santa Barbara. She took note at the fact that Juliet's hands were shaking, and that her brother did the same.

As the suspect was escorted out, Samantha holstered her gun. "You did good O'Hara." She turned to Shawn, looked over him to make sure he was unharmed, then smacked him on the back of his head.

"Oww!" he rubbed his head and glared at his younger twin. "What was that for?"
"Be more annoying next time, why don'tcha? Almost distracted Juliet here. Nice job staying on task with him bothering you by the way. I spent years perfecting that skill."
"Sorry," the older twin grumbled.

Juliet looked between the twins in slight confusion. "I'm sorry, do you two know each other?"
Samantha smiled tightly, "Unfortunately, yes. This dumbass is my twin brother."
"I am very offended Sam. You really hurt my feelings."
"Maybe so, but it's an accurate description. Let's go O'Hara." She turned her back on the older twin and walked out, the still slightly timid blonde following her.

1993
Shawn and Sam sat in the audience of the school spelling bee, currently watching their best friend Gus give his best try at his. The twins had differing opinions on helping him win or lose. The younger of the two wanted their best friend to win because she knew he genuinely enjoyed this. The older wanted Gus to lose, as he was too afraid to lose their best friend, covering that fear by saying he didn't want Gus's reputation ruined. And as he is very stubborn, every time his sister pointed out that that wasn't the reason, he protested. He knew she could see right through him though.

At the moment, Gus was at the microphone, attempting to spell 'aggiornamento'. He was looking at his two best friends in the audience for help, and this was causing him to hesitate.
"A-G-G-"
Sam was mouthing 'I' and even holding up a little ASL 'I' with one hand and trying to mess up Shawn with the other. Shawn was mouthing 'O' and batting his sister's hand away.

Feeling nervous, Gus asked for a chance to start over, "A-G-G-"
Shawn had now formed an 'O' with his hands, and Sam had stopped trying to ruin her brother's "advice" and was now also pointing to her eye, trying to emphasize she was right.
"-O-"
And a buzzer went off and the audience groaned. Granted, Shawn had groaned from his sister elbowing his side, hard. Disappointed, Gus walked off the stage.

Present Day
Samantha was sitting at her desk when Juliet came up to her. The brunette looked up to the blonde.
"Uh- Detective Lassiter told me to get you. We just got a call about a body at the spelling bee."
Samantha nodded, "Yeah, the spellmaster, right?"
The new detective looked at her in surprise, "How'd you know?"
The twin smiled and pulled out her phone, "My brother and our best friend witnessed it. Apparently Vick asked them to question the other contestants about the Vu kid's inhaler. So they're already there."
