⠀⠀“Ms. Nam, you do know you're being investigated for violating The Special Cases Concerning Traffic Accidents Act, right?” Jaechan spoke, his fingers gliding over the keyboard of his laptop.
“you have the right to remain silent and refuse to answer questions that may be used against you, remaining silent will not be used against you.” he spoke without a pause, focused on the task at hand as Hong Joo gazed over at him with a longing gaze.
she remembered him, of course. the man who appeared in her dreams, the hug that somewhat brought her comfort.. now sitting on that chair, interrogating her about an accident that wasn't even done with her own hands.
“you also have the right to consult an attorney and have an attorney present during questioning.” he finally finished, looking at the lady which created a brief moment of eye contact, gazes of recognition to each other's eyes but a prominent scowl spread amongst both their lips. “okay.” Hong Joo spoke shortly.
he went back to typing, “February 14, 2016 on your way home in your mother's car, you hit Mr. Han Woo Tak and Ms. Nam Min Young at an intersection in Sanggu-dong with the car and kill them, correct?”
“Nam.. Nam Minyoung? You don't mean—”
“my deepest condolences to you, Ms. Nam. Yes, i meant.. your sister. ” Jae Chan informed with a soft tone, seeing the puzzled look on her face followed by pain and disbelief. he felt sincere sympathy for the woman, she received news about losing her mother and sister as soon as the first moment she woke up from the accident.
“i didn't drive.” this caught the prosecutor's attention. “the man i was with, Lee Yoo Bum, drove the car.”
“right, that's what you said in the interview
with the detective.”“yes, he didn't believe me though.”
Hong Joo continued.“i interviewed Mr. Lee as well, I asked him if he drove the car that day, and he said he tried to stop you from driving, that the roads were slippery but you said you had to rush home because your...” he cleared his throat. “your mother wasn't picking up. so instead, he went with you out of worry.”
“that's a lie, he's lying. I know that he's the one who drove that day!” she expressed sternly, raising herself from the hospital bed.
the other detective cuts in, “we analyzed the blood on the airbag from the driver's seat and your DNA was found in it.”
“that's impossible.”
“even the dashboard camera footage from the ambulance shows that you were rescued from the driver's seat, Mr. Lee was rescued from the passenger seat.”
“i swear i did not drive!”
“then how will you explain your DNA and the dashboard camera footage?” Jae Chan retorted.
“i'm sure someone tampered with the evidence.” she spoke firmly “i lost my consciousness as soon as the accident happened, somebody must've moved me to the driver's seat. he must've wiped his blood off the airbag and left mine on it then sat on the passengers seat.”
