⠀⠀"are you saying that me and min-young will die because of an accident you'll cause?" our mom asked as the three of us sat outside our house and on the front deck, the birds whistling from up the sky and the sounds of leaves crashing together nearby playing in the background as hong-joo gave us a small nod, her head down and gaze darted towards the ground.
mom had immediately rushed back home from our samgyupsal restaurant as soon as i told her about the ruckus my older sister made early in the morning.
it ends up though that she dreamt about me and our mom dying in her dream because of an accident, and she had cut her hair after noticing that she had long hair in her dream, which cleared up the intentions from her sudden actions earlier.
"and you don't know when it'll be?" i asked in a gentle tone. hong-joo was leaning on my arms as i comfortingly held her in my embrace, making sure that she was alright though i could see her hands trembling.
she nods once more to my question as mom reached out to hold her hand, probably noticing them shaking for a while. "let me see." mom spoke and lifted her chin lightly.
"you need a flower right here." she uttered in a calm tone before bursting into a fit of laughter. i almost laughed at our mom's poor attempt to make a joke but urged myself not too when i saw hong-joo's disagreeing expression.
which, believe me, made me
want to laugh even more.
"my gosh-" "do you think this is funny?" she finally talked in a very displeased manner and ir made me swallow back the chuckle i almost spilled. "mom, do you find this situation funny?"
"you saw that man died just like what happened in my dream," hong-joo continued "my dreams have never been wrong!"
"is that why you chopped your hair off like this? do you think changing your hairstyle might change what you saw?" mom retorted in a much calmer tone.
"i'll never grow my hair long.
i had a long hair in the dream.""i had no idea that you looked
pretty because of your hair.""you're right, maybe you should wear a wig to make up for all the lost hairs.. or maybe hair extensions?" i joked wanting the once heavy air to lighten up as i carefully caressed the messed up hair of my sister, making her jolt away from my arms.
"mom! minyoung!" hong-joo called in annoyance which forced the laughters i try to hide reaveal themselves, sending my mom and i into another fit of laughters and giggles at her reaction.
"come on, i wouldn't die like that!
trust me and don't worry about it.""your sister's right, neither would i."
mom transferred into a comforting tone once more as she enveloped her into a hug, hong-joo invited me in for a trio group hug as she uttered words that sincerely touched my heart."you and minyoung are the only ones i have in this whole world," she talked while her face was pressed up against our mom's shoulder and me hugging her from the back as she held my hand. "so don't leave me.. okay?"
