*2 weeks later, Pilani Bakery 10:00am*
I retract the cup away from my mouth and intake a sharp breath, the air doing the bare minimum to help cool down my tongue. Remebering a hack that I learned about on Pinterest, I pick out one of the sugar packets that was in a small cup in the centre of the table; I tear the corner and pour the sugar on my tongue.
"You know there's a whole display of desserts to choose from," Tani says, her iced caramel latte in hand, when she sees me.
"It supposed to help with the burn," I explain
"Has it?"
I smack my lips together. "...No," I reach over and grab her cup.
"H-" She begins to protest but I have already taken a sip from her straw.
Putting on my best innocent smile, I put the cup back in front of her and she quickly pulls it out of my reach and shields it with her arm, "No one told you to buy a hot drink,"
Still smiling, I shrug my shoulders and divert my attention back to the file that I was reading before my hot chocolate decided to betray me.
Tani and I have been meeting up ever since I walked out of Steve's office; I still need to apologise for what I said that day but I have been using every excuse there is to delay it. So, now that my time isn't occupied by helping Five-0, I've been working part time in the FBI office here on the island and stayed in touch with her.
"I still can't believe I didn't know about this place," she says
"Right?! I didn't know about it until I almost died in that alleyway," I match her excitement, feeling slightly proud of myself that she liked the place that I chose.
"Thats a great silver lining," She grins and lets out a chuckle, "you should almost die more often- maybe you'll find a new bar,"
"You know I actually have found a new bar," I remember and we both burst out laughing
"So, is that a new case?" Tani asks me after calming down
I look back at the file. "Nah, things are quite dry in the federal building at the moment,"
"See? another reason to accept Steve's call," she says with her eyebrow raised.
I snap my head up and give her a deadpan look
"Girl just apologise and come back!" she scolds
"Nooo, I know I need to but I can already see the awkwardness of the situation," I pout.
She puts on a puppy dog face of her own and leans on the table, "Please, I need another girl with me on the team,"
I hold my ground and make my pout bigger. Just two grown women, sat in the middle of a bakery, having a pouting contest to see who would break at the others request first. What a sight.
My phone suddenly starts rumbling on the table, causing the spoon on my small plate to create a noise as it shakes.
"Oh thank god," I breath out a sigh of relief as I pick up the phone to read the message; I was so close to losing the contest.
"This isn't over," Tani says, still pouting.
"Yes it is," I give her a tight-lipped smile. "I've just been called in for a case and now I finally have something more fun than this file Ryan gave me,"
"Ryan?" she raises her eyebrow at me again
"Yes. he has gained first name priveledges," I say as I pack up my things
