A few mornings later, Anna was awake before the sun had even risen. Sat on a narrow window ledge she had found in the hospital, she gazed out of the window as the sun began peaking over the horizon. Her mind was foggy, flooded with empty thoughts. A certain feeling was brooding in the pit of her stomach. A feeling that she only ever felt before something bad happened. She put it down to the business that was going on today, it must be that.

"Mrs Gray." A young nurse approached her, clearly wary of disturbing the woman.

"Your husband is up and he's quite worried that you're not there."

"Right." She shook her head and held the bridge of her nose, trying to snap out of her daze. "Sorry, I'll be right there." Looking back out of the window, the sun was far past the horizon by now. She must've been sat there at least an hour.

Walking back into the room, Michael was sat up in bed reading the morning paper.

"Good morning." She forced a smile, placing a gentle kiss on his forehead.

"Something's wrong." He insisted, his voice laced with concern.

"It's nothing." She dismissed.

"Something's happening today, isn't it? Something big."

"Nothing you need to worry about."

"Anna." He reached over, placing a hand over her knee. "You don't need to protect me from it, I can handle it."

Rolling her eyes, she sighed in defeat. "Do you remember the boy Arthur killed?"

"I remember hearing about it, yeah."

"Well his mother is working with the Italians, she's given him up. He's going to her house today where we think they're going to try kill him. We're going to intercept."

"Why are you involved in that?" Michael furrowed his brows, leaning over so that he could properly wrap an arm around her.

"I want to protect my cousin. I'll be hidden away but Tommy doesn't think they know my face anyway."

"Just be careful." He reached up and cupped her face so she couldn't avoid his gaze. The worry in his eyes made Anna's heart pound with guilt.

"Always." She whispered, leaning in to kiss him for a little longer than usual. As they kissed, Michael's hands began to wander, rubbing his wife's leg before slowly creeping up her skirt, earning a giggle.

"Michael." She pulled away, removing his hand from under her clothing. "I have to go soon. Not to mention there are nurses constantly watching you." As she spoke, she gestured to one nurse who was clearly pretending she hadn't just saw what he did.

"But I miss it." He pouted, causing the woman to smirk.

"Not long." She purred, leaning back down for another long, hot kiss. Michael was enjoying it so much, Anna could've sworn she heard him moan at some point. Laughing again, she pulled away. "I've got to go."

"At least I made you smile."

The Blinders marched into Charlie's yard prepped for battle. Everyone gathered round Tommy, awaiting their instructions like soldiers getting ready for battle.

"Alright. At midday today, Arthur will be here. 47 Artillery Square." Tommy explained, using a map to illustrate the plan to the blinders.

Charlie popped open a crate in which sat several large guns, handing one to Anna. Tommy outlined the plan, giving Anna her location and instructions on how to not look suspicious whilst also handling a large weapon.

"When I give you the signal, you can open fire." They all nodded in response. "These men are coming for my brother, believing him to be unarmed and unprotected. So this is my business. Let's go."

The blinders marched into Artillery square, splitting up to where they had each been assigned. Anna's heart pounded more than it usually did when they carried out these sorts of things. She was constantly trying her best to ignore the bad feeling firmly nestled in the pit of her stomach.

Stood out of sight, she hid the weapon and made it look as though she was simply smoking a cigarette. Glancing up at the window, Tommy winked to her to confirm they knew each other's locations. From the corner of her eye, she could see Arthur walking towards the woman's house, she knew what she had to do.

A car could be heard pulling into the alley and it wasn't long before a whistle sounded from Tommy, alerting her aswell as Johnny and Isiah to ready their weapons. Anna checked her gun before holding it out of sight once again, an eye set on Tommy for the signal.

Her heart once again began to race as she awaited the sign that never came. Instead, he raised a hand for them all to hold fire. She shared a confused and concerned look with Isiah before returning her gaze to the window where Tommy was watching the car intently.

Her eyes stayed fixed on him until a young girl ran past, diverting her gaze. Shortly after, she watched Tommy point and fire his gun down the street, prompting her, Johnny and Isiah to do the same.

Once the car was out of sight, she spun around to look at her cousin, absolutely bewildered.

"What the fuck?" She threw her arms in the air, a number of emotions and scenarios running through each of the blinders' minds.

"It's a fucking decoy." Tommy shouted down to them. "Bring the car around now." Anna's face dropped. A decoy for what? All three brothers were here...

Michael.

The gun fell to the floor.

The world felt like it was moving in slow motion.

Anna's vision clouded, anger and upset washing over her face.

This was the bad feeling.

Isiah rushed to her side, comforting her as Johnny ran to get the car.

"Anna." Tommy yelled as he approached her and Isiah. "He'll be okay, alright?" He stood in front of her so he was looking directly into her eyes but still he felt she couldn't even hear him. She was completely overwhelmed with emotion which came across as having none at all.

Tommy pulled her into a loose embrace, partially out of comfort and also because he didn't trust her legs to hold her up.

"Come on, let's go." He whispered as the car pulled around.

"Is he gonna die Tommy?" She whispered back as he led her to the car.

"No." He lied. He had no idea.
