black out days
1925

Christmas was a time which made most people merry. On the morning of the twenty-fourth, the factory was buzzing with excitement at the thought of the next day. Anna and Michael were voicing their excitement within the boardroom. Anna was laid back on the table, legs spread and stockings on show. Asif he belonged there, Michael had placed himself between her legs, gently pounding away as they do best.

One person who certainly didn't find excitement in the festive period was Thomas Shelby. He walked through the factory that morning with his regular solum expression. He marched with his brief case in hand to the boardroom where he expected to find Anna and Michael, although not in the state which he did. The pair stopped as he walked in, both sighing disappointedly.

"Good morning Mr and Mrs Gray." Tommy beamed sarcastically, walking over to the coat hook in the corner. He made sure to keep his back to the couple longer than necessary to avoid seeing anything whilst they straightened themselves out.

"I said you didn't need to come in today." Anna told her cousin as she moved to sit in a chair. "We can deal with it."

"By fucking on my table?"

"We dealt with a similar problem last month." Anna rolled her eyes at Tommy's questioning.

"All the wire cutters here are women." Michael attempted to deflect the conversation to business. "The union convener thinks they're being underpaid."

"Well tell him there are no male ire cutters here so there cannot be any comparatives."

"She." Anna corrected. "The union convener is Jesse Eden."

"Yeah, I've heard of her."

"Do you want us in the meeting?" Michael asked.

"Only Anna, Miss Eden might appreciate there being more women than men in a meeting for once."

"Fair enough." Michael rose from his seat before leaning down to gently kiss his wife's lips. "See you at home." He whispered before departing from the board room.

"How's your mother?" Tommy moved to sit opposite Anna, offering her a cigarette which she took to no surprise.

"She's been on these tablets. She said that when she was inside the noose she saw spirits. It's bad." The hand which wasn't nursing a cigarette moved to rub her temples. The mere thought of the state of her mother was enough to give Anna a headache.

"She needs you to believe they're real with her. It's the only way you'll ever be able to take the noose from around her neck for good. Keep her off the whisky, throw away the tablets and keep her off the snow."

"Fucking hell Tommy, family advice from you?" Anna laughed. "You coming back?"

"Nothing to come back to."
