A/n: This is more like a one shot than a drabble. Inspired by Come Morning Light by SharkbaitSekki on Ao3. It's a really beautiful story. Q_Q. Can't help getting emotional about it.
The nuclear bombing had changed everyone. In this world, acts of violence and criminal offences were allowed, such as robbing or killing. The Japanese Government was a mess, mafia claiming to be working under their authority and mass murdering survivors. Everything was in chaos, supplies running out and every civillan in a state of war. Kids were forced to murder, then drugged so their organs could be sold.
(Y/n) had once pondered why the world was so cruel. At the mere age of 16, on an unsuspecting night, the nuclear bomb had hit the Miyagi Prefecture with so much force that over sixty-percent of the population died, including her single mother, her brother, and her dog. Technology went haywire and house came crashing down, along with her dreams. There was no time to mourn; she would die too if she didn't hurry. Fire was engulfing the ruins at a rapid rate, and inhaling the smoke would mean a deadly fate.
She had learnt a lesson that day. Never let your guard down. Evil would always be at peace's heels, and peace was only ephemeral.
Although she knew the burns on ber forearms and legs would heal, trauma would definitely be a thing she could never escape from. Contrasted to the bleeding and peeling wounds, scrapes and bruises were nothing. As squeamish as she was, she wanted to survive, and to live to tell her story.
She had wondered around the neighbourhood, cold, alone and afraid. There was no-one, and the only thing she could think of was going to Karasuno High School to see if there were any survivors. Hopefully, there would be.
The distance from her house to the school was painstakingly long. Every step of the way was a new hell for (Y/n), and it wasn't long before her legs gave up, toppling to the ground, and groaning loudly at the collision, as the ground was littlered with debris and sticks. Lying on the rubble, she wondered if her cousin Akaashi was hurt. Was there only one bomb? Were there bombings at other locations, too? The faint odour of blood interrupted her train of thoughts and she tried not to gag at the of sickly looking corpses. She glimpsed a flash of lightning out of the corner of her eye. Oh. It was going to rain.
"Nuclear bombing can affect the environment enough to produce acid rain. It is highly corrosive, and can sometimes even kill people. " The energetic voice of her chemistry teacher came back to her, loud and clear. She would have to get out of this trash heap and find a shelter, as long as she was concerned. (Y/n) pushed herself up and found a random stick to support herself. It would be a race against time now to find a place to keep her safe.
As she limped towards the school, the first few drops of rain fell down and landed on her skin. It hurt. Not so badly at first, but as the droplets of rain began to fall after one another, she flung herself under the nearest roof, which happened to be the walkway of the Gym. Skidding to a stop, (Y/n) grunted in pain, wanting to scream. She dragged her body to the heavy-looking doors and knocked, once, twice, and a third time.
"Ah... You must be here for the food, right?" The timid voice of Yamaguchi Tadashi met her ears. She was a classmate of his, in Class 4. They had never really talked, but had seen each other in classes. He was a cute guy, always stuttering and flushed when he was embarassed. The doors of the gymnasium opened, causing (Y/n), who was leaning on the door for support, to collapse at the his feet, unconcious.

When (Y/n) woke up, she felt the stinging sensation of alcohol on her wounds, and her legs, they were oh-so-sore, the aching and throbbing causong her to internally go insane. She didn't open her eyes; she was curious as to who Yamaguchi was with. Some of his friends, maybe?
"She's a wreck."Three words. And it took all of her self-restraint to not lash out at this guy.
"She's really filthy," he continued on, "And she looks lame."
That was it. (Y/n) opened her eyes, glaring at the pathetic excuse of a blond who insulted her pride. He sneered right back at her.
"I really hit a nerve there, didn't I?" His voice was beginning to sound terribly annoying to (Y/n). How could the shy and awkward Yamaguchi Tadashi be friends with a salty bastard like him?
"Tsukkishima, don't be rude."
"Tch."
Her savior turned to her. "Are you all right?"
"Yeah, I guess. "
(Y/n) looked around until she found her target. There he was, Yamaguchi Tadashi in all his green-hair-and-freckles glory. He had stayed quiet throughout the whole conversation.
"Um, how long was I out for?"
"Three days." Her hero replied.
She hadn't noticed that it was three days already. It only seemed a few hours. She blinked, then asked the most logical thing she could think of: "Who are you?"
"I'm Sugawara, but you can call me Suga. The blonde over there is Tsukkishima, the buzzcut guy is Tanaka, the shorter person is Nishinoya, he's Hinata, Kageyama-"
"I'm Daichi and he's Asahi." Finished a male in with a sturdy build, gesturing to a gruff-looking man. "Yamaguchi, you probably know, since he says you were in the same class as him."
(Y/n) nodded. "What's up with Yamaguchi?"
The three looked at each other, contemplating as to whether they should tell her or not. Finally, Asahi spoke. " He's probably uncomfortable about it right now. You should ask him. He knows the story best."
(Y/n) shrugged. He was being so quiet. After a recap of what happened in the three days you were unconcious by Suga and Daichi, you approached Yamaguchi to ask what had occured.
"Yamaguchi?"
He merely looked up at her.
"What happened?"
When he opened his mouth, his voice was raspy and rough. "Nothing, really. Why?"
The way he said it was so devoid of emotion (Y/n) wasn't even sure he was a living human being.
"Well, you haven't spoke much since I collapsed."
"Oh." He hesitated for a moment. "Conflicts happened. People wanted food, so I gave them the rotten cans, and they beat me up."
"Oh, I'm sorry for asking. Are you okay?"
He nodded. So much for being Yamaguchi Tadashi. In the end, he was just a shadow of the original. A ghost in the body of her deceased friend.
Yamaguchi Tadashi was dead. He died during that three days. He left a ghost that had a freaky resemblance to him, but it wasn't.
Yamaguchi Tadashi. Dead and gone. Died in the the beginning of the nuclear war. (Y/n) offered her deepest regrets. He would always stay in her heart.
