You Promised [PHAN]

The eternal promise vowing to stay in a love till death does them part. That’s what was always known to the world for professing one’s love was a big commitment. Those who fell in love had devoted themselves to the one they loved. If the eternal promise of someone’s love was broken then they would suffer heartache and eventually pass on from a shattered heart. It was uncommon for that scenario to happen when it did it was rare for the person to reach out to their lover during their last breath. Many fell hard for their future significant others just from a glance, their hearts would tick like an ancient explosive ready to blow. There was no correct age when people would fall in love; that aspect was undetermined. At the tender age of eight a bright mocha eyed boy was the only one lonesome in his group of peers. While they had their love lives he had the crumbs that blew at his feet. He suspected that there was an issue with who he was, thinking he had done something to restrain from falling for someone. His heart didn’t accelerate or his stomach blossom butterflies like his friend had told him it would when he found the one. Hopelessly he would lock himself away and cry cursing at his foul chances of being recognised whether for his looks or personality. When he would enter the steel doors to his school he’d see flocks of hands being held while they whispered soft and loving words in each other's ears. Instead of his heart beating normally it would thump as if to play a blue tune for only himself to hear. The others around him grow too loud as he tries to block them out. In an attempt to cover his ears he let loose a shrill cry “Soulmates aren’t real!” he fell to his knees knowing they’d bruise from the impact later in the day. He tucked himself into a ball as those bright mocha eyes grew blurry waterfalls of tears. No one paid attention to his outburst but instead walked past him carelessly. “Yeah fuck soulmates” the eight year old glanced upward to see a male shorter than him with a plastered on smirk. He held out his small hand allowing the boy to grab a hold of it to rise to his feet. “Phil” introduced the smaller boy “Dan, why are you helping me? Telling me your name?” panic surfaced in his golden eyes as he backed away from Phil. The smaller boy held up his hands to show surrender. “Dan, I won’t hurt you. I saw you crying I-I wanted to help you” he held out his hand watching as Dan slapped it away. “Just leave me like everyone else has. I’m not worth your constant pity.” the shorter male frowned “my heart as I got closer to you it-” Dan turned his head as tears glistened over his cheeks. “Don’t say it. Don’t lie to me like that. We aren’t soulmates and I am unlovable so just stop before I do something you won’t like.” The smaller eight year old kept his hand out “don’t you feel it it’s like a-” “I SAID STOP.” Dan screamed his feet carrying him away as he sobbed his heart ticking as he pleaded for it to end.
