Chapter 1

*15 years later*

Alx's Pov

"Dad! Where did mom put my shoes?" I hear Ava yell. "Check the closet! If they're not there then check the hallway!" I yell back to her. After a couple of minutes, she says, "Found them!"

I walk downstairs and into the kitchen to see Andrew eating breakfast and Emily putting the rest of the food on the table. I walk over to her and kiss her, "Good morning babe." She smiles and says, "Morning. Did your manager find you anything to do?" She asks.

"He did, I have to leave around nine." I tell her sitting down. Ava comes running downstairs and sits down next to me. "Daddy, can I ask you a question?" She asks. "You want something don't you?" I ask. "Yeah. Can I get a new phone?" She asks.

"What's wrong with the one you have now?" Emily asks. "Mom, it's a flip phone." Ava says. "Well it's still a phone so yo-" I cut Emily off by saying, "We'll go get you a new phone later." Ava hugs me and says, "Thank you daddy."

I look over at Emily and she's giving me a death glare. We all finish eating and Andrew says, "We need to go to school Ava." "Alright, dad are you picking me up later?" She asks. "I'll try, according how long my manager needs me." I say kissing her on her forehead. She nods and walks out with Andrew.

"Why are you giving Ava everything she wants?" Emily asks. "All she asked for was a new phone, I don't see why you're mad at me." I say. "Because you're not saying no to her and she's using it to her advantage." She says. "Babe it's just really hard to say no, but I'll try to start telling her no." I say pulling her into a hug.

We stand there for a while until my phone rings. I walk over to my phone and see that it's time for me to go. "Babe I need to go, I'll be back later." I say kissing her. "Text me if you're picking Ava up or not." She says. "I will, love you." I say. "Love you too." She says.

Ava's Pov

"The bell doesn't dismiss you I do!" My teacher yells at us. He makes us wait for a couple of minutes then says we can go. I walk to my locker and put my books in there and start walking out of the building. "Hey Ava wait up!" I hear someone yell.

I turn around to see Colton running towards me. "Hey Colt what's up?" I ask. "Nothing really, just wanted to walk with you to wherever you're going." He says. "Isn't that nice of you." I say. "I know it is. Is your dad picking you up?" He asks.

"I'm not sure, I think so though. He said we're getting me a new phone today so he should pick me up." I say. "What do you think your dad would say if he saw me walking with you?" He asks. "He would probably get mad but oh well." I say.

We walk outside and I see my dad sitting in his truck on his phone. Colton walks with me until we're right next to my dad's truck. "Thanks for walking with me Colt." I say opening the door. "No problem. Just didn't want you to be alone." He says. I smile and say, "See you tomorrow." He nods and walks away.

I get in the car and dad asks, "Who was that?" "My friend Colton." I say. He nods and starts driving. He pulls up to the phone store so we get out and head inside. "You can choose what kind of phone you want." He says. The employee walks up to us and he helps me find a phone that I want.

I choose a silver IPhone 6 plus and dad walks up to pay for it. I notice the old cashier staring at me up and down so I whisper to dad, "Can you tell him to stop staring at me?" Dad looks at me and then at the cashier and says, "Are you a pedophile or something? Stop staring at my daughter or I'm going to kick your ass and make sure you get put in jail."

The man looks down quickly and hands Dad my phone and the receipt. "Walk in front of me so he can't stare at you." Dad says. I do as he says and we walk out. We head home and when we get there, he sets my phone up and puts all of my contacts in the new phone.

"Alright there you go." He says. "Thank you so much daddy." I say hugging him. "You're welcome sweetheart." He says. Mom walks in with food so we all head to the table to eat.
