5. CHOOSE AN EMPRESS

Everyone had settled for the morning court. It was Sunday and the first day of the week meaning that even the emperors concubines were part of the meeting as well. Well except one beauty that rarely came out in public.

On one side sat 4 beautiful women each carrying a different aura that suited their species. They were elegant, confident and superior. The 10 trusted ministers of the state were on the other side  calm and respectful. There was complete silence as they all awaited for the arrival of the emperor.

The temperature in the room seemed to rise as a gust of wind entered the room followed by a fiery wave that settled on the throne before it turned into a whirlwind of flames. A few seconds later the flames disappeared only to reveal a handsome man with a strong aura of power.

The emperor might have looked young but his presence alone effortlessly brought people to their knees. Everyone in the room including guards and servants bowed down to the emperor.  Even if you did not want to his powerful aura effortlessly pushed you down without him lifting a finger and this was just a glimse of tge phoenix.

He was the second ever phoenix to exist in history. Actually one could say he was the first because it was believed a phoenix never died. It turned itself into ashes only to be reborn when the time is right. Hyun could already be considered as their original leader of all supernaturals.

The world used to be divided completely by race and each race was ruled by a King. But they were never united and the world was filled with violence and wars. It was believed that the Phoenix is a heavenly deity who felt pity for the world and then decided to descend to earth to being order and unity. The phoenix unified the world under one emperor. He stopped the fighting and the wars and brought universal peace.

When the time was right and he had raised and chosen a capable son born from his beloved empress he was confident to leave but only when his empress passed on did he leave the world until he was reborn again. More than 10 000 years and 8 generations later did the world receive the phoenix emperor once more in the form of a young prince born of the last dragon emperor and and his elf empress.

Other times you would expect then to bear a child like their own but a phoenix spirit bore a phoenix and his vesel of conception would not change that.  

Hyun told everyone to rise and morning court began. The emperor had given each concubine a specific duty and so once every week they needed to give updates or make contributions.  Like most state marriages they were to unify kingdoms and for strategic reasons. It helped the emperor have complete control of everything as well as allowing all kingdoms to contribute and have a position in power.

Lilith, the demon princess was the first to speak. Demons were known for their power and strength. In most cases you would expect them to be a race greatly discriminated because they were filled with many ugly, gruesome and violent monsters. The truth was many feared them and because if this they had been pushed to the underworld where resourses where scarce and they were outcasted. This is why they turned to violence and destruction to get what they needed from the world above.

But Hyun never saw them like this and realised the way demons were treated was unfair. Not only did he change the laws to open trade and free travel between the underworld and above but he also gave them land and accepted their princess as one of his brides.

Lilith was strong, intelligent a d a warrior. Demons were known for their strength and combat skill and this is why the emperor put her in charge of the army. If she wasn't just the emperors concubine but she was the highest  comander in the army. A  strong force that no one could look down upon.

Next was Taeyeon, the mermaid princess. Currently she had taken a potion that temporarily gave her legs but she spent most of her time in her courtyard which was 99% a waterworld specially build for her by the emperor.

Mer people had never had a good relationship with people from land. This was because land people always tried to steal their treasures and so the mer people would also kill sailors without question. Because of this even innocents would perish. The only was they could be peace was if the emperor took the mermaid princess as his bride as well as banned sailors at certain places out at sea so that they do not invade or interupt the lives of merpeople in their underwater cities. Taeyeon was in charge of sea travel control and trade between the mer people and land people.

Mina was a representative of the magic society which was broad in race and culture and even has a lot of internal conflict. Mina was the result of a union between a dark wizard, her father who was a high priest, and a light witch, her mother who was a high priestess. She developed a healing ability unlike any other and offered to the emperor as an aid. She was put in charger of medicinal development for the benefit of all creatures in the world.

Tatiana, the werewolf princess, is a representative of all shifters. She has a firm and righteous character.  She has always been a person who protects the weak and fights evil and this is why Hyun put her in charge of the justice system. Even if the emperor was overall judge her duty was to make laws and uphold order in her power and ability with the emperors approval.

As soon the emperors concubines werw done with their reports a d complaints the minsters contributed their parts as well according to their territory and responsibilities.
Hyun thought it was over before the ministers added a topic he hates the most.

"When does the emperor plan to take an empress?" Suho, the eldest minister began. He was a half breed. His father was a wizard while his mother was a sea monster that was able to take human form. He had even served during the reign of the last emperor who is Hyuns father.

"This world is too much of a burden for this emperor to carry on his own. He needs an empress to help him carry this burden" Chen added. He was an angel. Angels were a species that served the gods but some of them came down to earth and settled there when the original phoenix descended. And so they have served the emperor from the first until the present.

"His excellency already holds a harem with outstanding wives. All his majesty needs to do is pick an empress from here without going far. We as the ministers trust your choice and will support his majesty regardless of who his selection will be" Kris, a vampire prince and also a childhood friend of Hyun also added. But unlike the others who had their heads bowed he glimpsed at Hyun who was giving him an annoyed glare while Kris smiled even wider, "Whatever you decide we will support you" he repeated again as he bowed properly.

Hyun just took a deep breath to calm down before speaking.
"When I make a choice for empress I will inform you. For now don't bring this issue up again. You are all dismissed" he commanded and soon the hall was empty of everyone.

A moment later a man in a completely black rob entered the room and bowed before the emperor.
"Your majesty"
"Did you do what I sent for you?"
"Yes your majesty"
"Cut the bullshit Sehun and just tell me" the young guard raised his head with a smile. Sehun was on of the emperors personal guards and another childhood friend. He was a fire demon. He had a cold attitude towards most but was playful with his friends. Even the big scary emperor.
"Are you that anxious?"
"You know how I feel"
"Then why don't you go see him yourself?"
"You know the reason. Now tell me... how is he?"
