Ever since I was a little kid, I have wanted to be a nightguard. I have no idea why, but I do know that it was a bad idea. I should've chosen something else. But now it's too late.

I live in a small apartment with my pet tortoise, Rye. My life is uneventful. All my friends moved away for college, and I'm stuck here in Lostine, Oregon. After a few minutes of watching a boring show on Netflix, I hear a loud knock on the door. As I get up of the extremely comfy couch, whoever is outside knocks again, louder this time. "I'm coming!" I shout. With one quick heave, I pull the heavy door open, only to find that my parents have come to visit me. Great. My parents can be a little, well, self-centered.  "Hey sweetie! can't wait to meet your new crab thingy! What's her name again? Ryan? Rylie?"

"For one mom, it's called a tortoise, not a crab. Next, it's a boy. Lastly, his name is Rye. Do you even read my text messages?" I say, annoyed. "Yes, yes, of course I do honey. Now, what movie should we watch darling?" My mom says, turning to my dad. Ugh. This is going to be a long day. A couple hours later, my parents finally leave. Thank goodness! Now I can finally get to researching available nightguard jobs. After scrolling through several pages of job offers, I come across one that is really close to my apartment. I go to the website, and I was suprised because of the amount of information in this page. There is barely anything!
