The line between heaven and hell is defined only by perspective. Perfect euphoria is equal parts pleasure and pain. After all, the freedom of flying has to be balanced out with the fear of falling. A month ago, I never would have thought about the concept of heaven and hell. But then I walked through both of them. And as much as it hurt, I would do it again and again, just to experience that flight, however brief it was.
Darkness pressed in around me, like a thick fog. I blinked slowly, so slowly, trying desperately to understand the impossible scene unfolding around me.
"Don't fight it, Evangeline. It's okay, you're safe now. You can rest." His gentle voice soothed my soul. My weary eyes struggled to focus on him as he folded me in a tender embrace, as though I was a fragile bird in his strong arms. Something soft and smooth brushed lightly against my cheek.
It must have been the delirium, the exhaustion, or something else I couldn't understand, but as my world faded into darkness, I thought I caught a glimpse of glossy black...wings.
