After running to the store and back to get everything we needed, such as stuff to drink and appetizers, I rushed back to my apartment and plopped everything down on the counter. My bedroom door opened and Seonghwa walked out in a towel, his wet hair sticking to his forehead and going out in all directions.My breath hitched in my throat as my eyes gazed over his body, but all those thoughts were pushed away when he looks at me frantically and says "Y/N, my dad just texted and said he's gonna get here and hour early so he can show us some random thing he got on vacation, or something." Oh shit. Shit shit shit. I looked around at the frozen appetizers I bought from the nearest grocery store. "How early is early? Like how much time to I have to get ready?"
He glanced at his phone on the counter and said "Uh, 2 and a half hours, maybe 3 if traffic is bad." "Oh FUCK" I yelled, that was not enough time for everything to get done before they got here.
I ran to get dressed. Seonghwa hurried around the kitchen, trying to figure out how to cook and host a dinner for his parents for the first time we had been together. As I put on the beautiful red dress, I looked at all of the marks on my neck, which seemed to have faded a bit since they were given to me. "Okay," I said quietly to myself. "This shouldn't take too long. Its not like his parents will be staring at my neck the whole time.
I went into the bathroom and started to apply makeup over the darkest marks first, when I heard shouts from the kitchen, followed by a crash and a whine. I peek out of the bedroom to see Seonghwa sitting on his knees on the kitchen floor, a cooking tray and various frozen finger foods splayed on the floor in front of him. He looked at me with wide, almost puppy dog eyes.
I laughed at the sight of him amongst the spilled food, and he whined back, "y/n, its not funny! This was like, half of our frozen stuff and I dropped it because I accidentally caught my belt loop on the drawer handle and now its-"
I held his pouty face and kissed him gently to shut him up. "Baby, we still have a bunch of them in the bag in the freezer. I got extra in case we liked them, and wanted to have them when we watched a movie or something. I used to eat them growing up."
Seonghwas lips formed a small O as he nodded and said "So I didn't just ruin dinner?" I chuckled and said "No Mr. Park, you definitely did not. Now get up , I'll help you clean this up.
==============
I sprayed the setting mist on my neck to keep the makeup from smearing or smudging, and gently dusted off the top part of my dress where some of the powder had fallen. Seonghwa stood beside me, trying to get some control over his messy hair, which he forgot to brush after his shower.
"There." I said. "Its like nothing ever happened." He looked at me and shook his head slightly. "Its a shame. All that hard work for nothing." I laughed as I walked to the kitchen to set out the finger foods.
Seonghwa walked out of the bedroom, his hair coiffed slightly and his lavender coloured shirt buttoned to just above his breastbone. He looked breathtaking, my heart fluttered in my chest.
He cocked his head to the side after a few moments, saying "Did you need me to hold that plate? You're about to drop it." I looked down at the small stack of plates in my hands that leaned a bit to far. I quickly balanced them as Seonghwa laughed at me, and I shot out my tongue at him.
"Aww, someones embarrassed! It's okay, I can see why you stared. I look incredible." He said with a pompous voice. I raised my eyebrows at him and said "Oh yeah? Are you as incredible at not burning food as you are at looking pretty?" He looked towards the empty oven with panicked eyes and then looked towards the tray of foods I took out a few moments ago.
"Very funny, y/n, but the answer is yes. I would never burn anything." I rolled my eyes at him before I heard the buzzer at our door. I glanced at Seonghwa as he rushed to open the door.
A high pitched voice said "Seonghwa, my son, you look so handsome! How have you grown so much since I last saw you?"
Seonghwa laughed as he greeted his parents, and his mother exclaimed again as she saw me standing in the kitchen. "Why, Y/n, you look beautiful as well! That dress suits you, the colours match your skin so nicely!" "Yes, whoever picked it out must have a wonderful eye for fashion." Seonghwas father says with a wink at his wife.
As both Seonghwas father and mother greeted us with compliments and gentle hidden criticism, I felt my worries draining away. Tonight would go very well, I think. Everything was ready and prepared, the food made, the drinks poured. Mrs. Park almost knocked over a vase picture frame we had on the counter and almost created a spectacle when she thought she had damaged it.
I met Seonghwas eyes for a moment and smiled. Now I know where he got his dramatic flair.
