I stared out the car door window watching the trees pass us by. I sat on the other side from truck away from Jake. I didn't want to make him uncomfortable so I kept my distance. "So what brought you down the mountain?" He asked me breaking an hour's worth of silence. I turned to look at him and his eyes were still on the road.
"Up," I said. He seemed a bit confused so I tried my best to explain. "I live ... well lived I guess, a bit farther down the mountain." I said. He looked unsatisfied with this reply. "So what brought you up the mountain? Other then the dog and her owner." He asked. "I mean after all you don't just abandon your home for no reason." He said with a small smile.
"Yeah we don't usually do that , but hey why not try something new?" I said with an awkward laugh. He smiled and looked in the mirror. I turned around to see what he was looking at and saw that Levi and Jasmine were in the seats behind us. They were asleep. They both looked so peaceful. "What's the real reason you walked five miles up the side of a freezing mountain to bring two random people somewhere where you could have been shot as soon as welcomed?" He asked.
"I," I tried to search for an answer but couldn't find. "I haven't got a clue." I said confused. It was true. I had no idea why I went up the side of the reason. I meant I knew he had food and well I was hungry, so that could be one. But to be honest I could have just as easily ate them. So why help. I pondered on this for awhile until my thought process was interrupted by Jake once again.
"We're here." He said pulling up the huge driveway of the gigantic steel tower. I just stared in awe. "Cool ain't it." He asked. I nodded still mesmerized by the structure.
He got out and walked over to Ryder. The two began chatting. I wasn't about to sit in a hot truck for him to open the door.I paw at the latch until I finally got to where I could grab it with my teeth. I then yanked it and the door popped open. I pushed it until I could get out and escaped the truck. I wandered around and began to look around the giant building. I walked up to the doors and the opened automatically. "Cool." I said to myself. I began to sniff around to see if I could find anything else that peaked my curiosity. I explored until I stepped on a big yellow platform.
Doors behind me shut and it began to move.I looked out the side of one of the big glass walls, and was amazed again. I could see the world from up here. I saw the beach and the forest and in the distance I saw the mountain. And that got me think of home, and home brought my mind to Zach, and all the things I loved about him. I shook my head clearing of these thoughts. The elevator let out a soft ding and the doors opened up. I was in a room with a huge screen in it.
"Hello there!" A small blonde Cockapoo said startling me a bit.
"Umm hi?" I said timidly. She was about a tenth of my size, but the Shepherd was almost as big as me and she reached of him. "I'm Skye." She said."Azreal." I said. Her face had the biggest smile. Her personality just seemed so cheerful and vibrant. Unlike the dog she sleeps with. "I don't want to seem rude, but you're not supposed to be in here" she said.
"Oh my bad. I'd leave but I don't even know exactly how I got here." I said smiling nervously. She giggled.
"Follow me." She said leading me back to the yellow platform. The doors opened and then closed. I felt the platform shift again and almost died. "You'll get used to it." Skye said. I laughed.
"Maybe." I said.
"Can you tell me why it scares you?" She asked.
"Let's just say the last time I felt the earth shift it ate me." I said jokingly. I was expecting a smile or something, but her face was just one of concern."I have a dark sense of humor." I said. Her head tilted to the side a bit and I sighed. The elevator stopped and their stood the German Shepherd. His face was cold and stern. It made me uncomfortable.
"Hi Chase!" Skye said running up to him. His face softened for a moment. He leaned down and whispered in her ear. "I want to talk to him alone." He said. He took one step closer and she stopped him.
"Watch that temper. Okay?" She said softly. He nodded and she left. "So you're the new pup? Don't look like much to me." He said. I scoffed.
