It was a beautiful night. The moon above me gave off a soft ambient glow that dimly lit the dense forest around me. The cold winter wind blew through my smokey gray fur sending shivers down my spine. I had woken up because the smell of honey dew and lavender filled the air. The smell was coming from the Lab that had wandered here from the town at the bottom of the mountain. I could smell the shampoo from here. I could see her and her human walking the path in the woods below me. The sight of her smooth clean brown coat filled me with a sensation of joy that just made my heart race. I finally got to meet a dog. I was so excited. I heard how good their life is and I just needed to know for myself "Looks like they're lost. I'm going to go help them." I said to Zachariah eagerly. I looked over to the Timber wolf beside me. His Brownish grey fur seemed more brownish black in the dim light of the moon. "Are you sure Azzy. You know you are kind of big and humans have been known to act irrationally to our kind. You don't smell that great either" He said. I smiled.
"Must you always be so pessimistic?" I asked. He let out a small sigh and looked at the ground then back at me. "You know how humans react to us. They only see us as beasts. They have for over a hundred thousand years now. What makes you think this time will be different." He asked. I began to trot off the smooth stony top of the hill we were sitting on and said "I don't.". I walked all the way down the hill and through the forest and down the path and followed them for a little while. They didn't seem to notice. "Howdy there folks." I said , throwing the woman and Lab off guard.
"Well hello there." The lab said with a cheerful smile. I began to walk closer but the woman backed up. I took that as my cue to leave but all I did was bow my head, showing I meant no harm. This seemed to make the lady more intrigued than scared. I took a few steps closer to the Lab. as i got close the smell became more and more powerful flooding every sense of my body.
She was no older than twenty years old (In dog years.) "Hi I'm Leviathan , and this is my owner Jasmine." She said cheerfully. I looked over at the woman who just waved nervously.
"I've never seen a dog like you before you're so much bigger than me. Your fur is so fluffy and white too,and you smell." She sniffed the air around me and covered her nose with her paw. "Like dead fish." I let out a small laugh.
"What breed are you?" she asked.
"My, my aren't you a curious one. I am a wolf." I said. "I don't live very far from here either." I said, slowly beginning to walk in circles. The young pup began to follow parallel to me.
"A wolf cool, how old are you? I'm only seventeen." I thought for a moment and decided to tell her the truth. "I just turned twenty one October the sixteenth." I said. Her jaw dropped and she sat down. "I thought you were older." She said.
"Really why?" I asked. She walked closer and sat down in front of me. Only then did I realize how much bigger than her I really was. She only came up to my chest. "Wow, I really am tall." I said with a small laugh.
"Do you know what kind of wolf you are?" She asked. I really couldn't remember. "Nope. The last thing I remember is getting trapped under a big old pile of ice."
"You're a Dire Wolf? I thought you guys died out almost 10,000 years ago." The woman said, reminding me of her existence. I tilted my head a little.
"If I am the last of my kind? What you see is what you get." I said. She was hesitant with her answer.
"How though you guys were frozen out. Starved to death." she said. I was honestly impressed by the amount of things she knew about me and my kind.
"Like I said, I was frozen. Me and Luna were exploring and I got us trapped in a pile of ice. It was freezing cold. The last thing i remember is falling asleep. Then I woke up to a world full of new things. We agreed to go our separate ways for now and meet up later on in life when we had our footing, or needed the others' help. She's only come and got me twice since that day. Now how did you two get trapped upon this frozen hell hole?" I asked.
