Adrian
I opened the door to let Ashton and her dad in.
"Hey Adrian. This is my dad, Damien" Ashton greeted. It makes sense that we have the same first letter, I mean we're twins. We have the same hair color too, and nose. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm doing fine, how about you?" I don't want to be too awkward but this is so weird. I've been an only child with an overprotective mom, and now I have a twin and a dad.
"I'm good." I can tell she's lying. We have the same way of lying. We only smile with our mouth and without the eyes.
"That's good. Come on in," I say opening the door more for them to enter. "Make yourself at home." I sighed. This is gonna be some hell to get through. I shut the door and walked into the living room where Ashton, my mom, and apparent dad were sitting. Mom hugged him and sat down beside him, holding his hand. I guess they're married, or at least never stopped loving each other. I sat down beside Ashton.
"So what exactly is going on?" Ashton asked. She seemed really nervous. Her leg was bouncing and her voice was only a little higher than what it usually is. You wouldn't notice it higher but if you really paid attention then you can tell.
"Yeah, why were we separated when we were younger?" I asked. I hope she can't read me like I can read her.
"I already told Ashton this," Damien said. "But we can't tell you yet. You guys have to wait."
"What we can tell you is why we were so strict when it came to being outside without us for a long time," Mom said. She seemed really calm even given the whole fucked situation we're in. "We needed to seperate each other and you guys because we were being hunted down and they saw Adrian. So we had to hide Adrian but didn't want to lose Ashton. We had to seperate to protect the both of you without losing either of you." What in shit's name was that explanation?
"But why were you guys being hunted?" Ashton asked. Her mouth was slightly open in awe at everything Mom just said. It sounds like full on bullshit but whatever. I fixed my posture so that I wouldn't get uncomfortable. Even sitting down, me and Ashton seem to be the same height.
"I already told you, Ashton, you need to wait before you know." Damien said. He had anger fueling his words. When he said 'wait' he added a really cold ending to it.
"Then what's the whole point of this then?" She exclaimed. "You can't just tell us part of the whole story and be fine with it."
"Ashton, you have to be patient," my mother said. She had a calm demeanor about her which seemed to have startled Ashton.
"But how do you expect us-" she pointed to me, "to 'be patient'?" She had a calmer tone of voice but was still strong in her words.
"Ashton, stop." Damien said coldly. Ashton leaned back and started playing with her hair. I did the same. We had different lengths but it didn't really stop either of us. But Ashton started to change. Not just change as in attitude but physically. And not physically like her body language but in what she actually looked like. Her hair color changed from a light blonde to really dark black and it grew somehow longer. Her body type then changed to a more defined hourglass structure. She looked paler than she did before and taller.
"What the hell," I whispered as I stood up. I looked to Damien and he had a surprised look on his face, but yet not worried. Mom had the same face. They looked at each other and grinned. How can they be grinning at this?
"What is it?" Ashton asked, but it wasn't her voice. It sounded higher but raspy too. She scared herself and threw her hand over her mouth.
"What is going on with you right now?" I said.
"What's going on with me? What's going in with you?!" She retorted a she pointed. I looked at my hand to see that it wasn't even there.
"Guys you need to calm down." Damien said. He finally had a calm but commanding tone. Me and Ashton both looked at him with disbelief. "The both of you just unlocked each other's powers. But you need to calm down before anything happens." Ashton's phone rang. It was one of her friends, Diana.
"I can't answer this, not right now." She said. She still doesn't have her real voice back. The phone soon stopped ringing and she texted Diana. I could see her hair shortening and changing back to blonde. Her body lost the defined hourglass figure. I saw my hand return as I sat back down. We both took a deep breath and leaned all the way back in the sofa. I put my hands over my face and rubbed my eyes. This can't be real, it has to be a dream.
"I'm gonna go to the bathroom." I said plainly. I got up, walked down the hallway and closed the door behind me. I sat down on the floor with my knees up to my chest. I stared at the gray marbled walls. Why couldn't they have told us sooner? This wouldn't have happened if we knew sooner. No, this wouldn't have happened if whatever happened nearly 16 years ago didn't happen. How the hell do I have powers anyway? This is just so confusing. I'll just sit here for a while longer before I go back out there. I wish I had a boyfriend. But this new school doesn't seem to be a good place to find a partner. I stood up, took a deep breath, turned the light off and walked out the door. I went back and sat next to Ashton.
"It will take awhile for you guys to get used to the powers." Mom said. "It's going to take a lot of patience and understanding. Me and your dad don't have the same powers as you do, no one does. Ashton has the ability to manipulate her body into different ways, animal or human. Adrian, you can manipulate your body into being invisible. Physically changing is a trait on your dad's side of the family."
"How did we unlock each other's powers?" I asked, still somewhat breathless.
"I'm not sure but it is about time. We have some time for you guys to learn and get used to your powers." Damien said. I should probably start calling him 'Dad' but it's still weird.
"We'll keep you home tomorrow instead of going to school." Mom said. At least we don't have to do homework. Or see the bullies at school. God it's gonna suck when I go back since it was Ashton who saved me. "Even though you don't have school, it will be a long day tomorrow."
"Come on, Ashton, let's head on home." Damian, dad said.
"Why don't you stay for dinner? We haven't seen each other for nearly 16 years and the twins need to get to know each other." Mom said.
"Alright then." He said as he sat back down. Mom got up and headed to the kitchen.
"I'm gonna call Diana back." Ash said. Should I even be calling her Ash now or should I wait.
"Okay, don't be too long." Dad, this still sounds weird, said.
"Alright." She sighed as she stepped outside. Now it was just me and my Dad. I don't even know what to talk about. I don't know anything about him but he might know everything about me because of Mom which just makes it kinda weird.
"I'm new to the school so I think I should go study." I say while pointing upstairs. I don't wanna be rude but this is so awkward. I head up the stairs to my room and close the door. I plop down on my bed and got my computer out. My classes shouldn't be hard but I came in late in the semester. I'm gonna just do Mr. Yonge's History. We're studying something about alchemy but I really don't know what this even is. We have to write a report on it. I open up my book and start typing.
