Kirk Hammett, the new guitarist of Metallica, had just joined the band. During band practise he'd be quiet and let James and Lars do most of the talking as he didn't know them very well. He would spend the time immersed in his own musical thoughts or coming up with new guitar riffs. He was still quite shy and needed more time to get used to the people around him.
The band just finished practising for the show they were going to play at the day after.
"We played well today, I'm sure tomorrow's show will be good." the bassist, Cliff, said.
"Let's just hope Lars doesn't mess up then!" James said. Both James and Cliff laughed.
Lars looked at them and angrily shouted "Fuck off James!"
Kirk watched quietly. He was starting to get nervous as this would be his first ever show with the band. Cliff noticed this.
"Kirk, don't be nervous, you'll do great! You're an amazing guitarist and if you mess up it won't matter."
"Thanks." Kirk replied with a smile.
"Alright! Let's all go home and get ready for tomorrow!" James exclaimed.
Everyone packed their instruments and went home.
Once Kirk arrived home, he spent hours practising every song on Kill 'Em All. He must've played them at least 10 times each, but he wanted to make sure he wouldn't make any mistakes during his first ever Metallica show. When he finished, he went to bed but laid there most of the night not being able to fall asleep.
That same night Lars laid in bed. He was busy thinking about the new guitarist. He was wondering what Kirk was doing at that exact moment and hoping that he wasn't too nervous. That was unusual of him. Lars rarely worried about others but for some reason, that night he did.
After hours of thoughts they both managed to fall asleep.
