Prologue
Genesis"Fucking shit dude! The tickets were already sold out." Your best friend, Ophelia wined as she launched herself face forward onto your messy queen sized bed.
"What?!"
You crawl over to the laptop she had set down at the foot of the bed and dragged it past the chips and salsa the two of you had been eating and to where you were sitting. "Fuck."
Slamming the computer shut you sighed and laid down so that the two of you were facing each other. "What do we do now?"
Ophelia rolled her hazel eyes into the back of her head, annoyed and you could tell she was trying to hold back an aggravated scream. Then she sighed. "I guess ... no My Chemical Romance concert for us."
You poked out your bottom lip sadly and looked at the computer screen again just to make sure that your eyes weren't playing tricks on you- they weren't.
As you got up from the bed you grabbed a chip and scooped some salsa in, thinking that you could eat all your pain away and walked down into the kitchen to make something else to eat.
There was nothing good to eat. Just to make shit worse, the only halfway decent thing you could find was a granola bar- and NOT the good kind with chocolate chips inside. Glumly, you ate it all in two bites, throwing the trash away in the overfilling trash can.
The windows to the kitchen were big and open, when you looked out of them you could see the stars shining bright in the sky. You thought about your favorite band, My Chemical Romance and chuckled to yourself as a thought appeared into your head.
"How dumb would I have to be to..." You cut yourself off and shook your head. "Fuck it."
You closed your eyes and leaned forward so that half of your body was hanging from the first story window- breathing in the crisp summer air you couldn't even believe the words coming out of your mouth.
"I wish to see My Chemical Romance."
After the words came out of your mouth you thought you'd feel different, but you felt exactly the same. Hey, it was worth a try. Next time you'd remember to preorder the tickets instead of waiting.
The feeling that something was about to change didn't come until that night as you were falling asleep.
—
"Get up! I made breakfast!" A velvet pillow slapped you across the face so hard that it took your breath away.
"What the fu-" You squinted at the light and slowly sat up in your bed. "Man I slept horrible last night" You told Ophelia as you slipped on some pants. "You left crumbs in my bed."
Ophelia ignored you and walked out the room and into the kitchen, she liked to cook and did it whenever she had the time. You had always thought she should be a chef at her own restaurant, but she was passionate about becoming a doctor someday.
"Take the trash out, will ya?" Her thick New York accent coated her words like thick wet sugar.
You grabbed the bag and started for the front door, prepared to have to unlock it but after a small tug it opened. Guess you had forgotten to lock it last night.
As you opened the door you caught a glimpse of something red, when the door was fully opened you almost had a heart attack.
There was a shiny red box with a carefully tied black bow on the top. You immediately dropped the trash bag onto the front porch and carefully picked up the box as if it would break if you grabbed it too roughly.
"What is it?" Ophelias voice suddenly came from behind you.
"I don't know." You said as you placed it onto the marble counter top. "Should we open it?"
It was silent for a moment until the two of you said in unison- "Fuck yeah."
Carefully removing the lid a piece of the paper fell onto the kitchen tiles. Inside the box was two envelopes, one with both of your initials. You grabbed yours and didn't hesitate to rip the whole thing up.
Your heart sank. "It's the concert tickets!" You said excitedly and saw that Ophelia was holding one too.
"There's something else." She said, looking up at your wearily.
You dug your hand into the envelope and pulled out a silver necklace with a black gem pendant on it. It looked expensive.
Ophelia lowered herself to the ground and picked up the paper that had fallen. "Now you owe me. - Dr. D"
