The song was almost complete. You had been staying overtime, tweakings, but you wanted to make sure her sound didn't clash too much with the harmony. You helped her record her harmonies as well. Over the course of the past few weeks you had gotten more than your fair share of smiles out of her. She was sweet, talented, and beautiful all wrapped up in some hard to crack shell, but you had done it.
Once more, you restarted the track and as ChaCha's intro started, you winced a little. Not as much as before but still. It was a very smart business decision to get the ChaCha-hive on board with this song, as it would guarantee commercial success for your first hit. You left a good chunk of time blank for whoever this special feature was supposed to be, but Jay, or anyone else, hadn't let it slip since. The anticipation was getting to you.
Today was a Hoody day so this morning you had told everyone you would be in early to get as much out of the sessions as possible. Almost immediately as you walked through the front doors to the building, one of the well dressed secretaries stopped you and told you to head up to the 5th floor. She wore a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes but you ignored it, walking past her and letting her struggle to keep up behind you. Only the women who lacked substance gave you that expression, and they weren't worthy of your energy. It didn't matter if you were Tinashe herself, they would never hold sincerity in their eyes. "Mr. Park wants to talk about your song." You raised a hand passively, that let her know she could stop tailing you.
The ride up was quick and as the elevator doors opened you heard your music blaring from the speakers. She spotted Jay already moving in the mirror. Was he....choreographing? As much grief as this man gives everyone, one thing you couldn't call him was lazy. The sun was barely up and he was already dripping with sweat trying to find the moves that fit the song. He spotted you in the mirror and smoothly turned 180 degrees to face you. He had a little pep in his step as he jogged lightly in your direction. "Y/N, good! I'm glad you're here early, we have so much to do." He grabbed your slim wrist and immediately began to pull you to the studio room. His palms were a little sweaty, and it made his skin stick to yours a little.
He swung the door open and you were greeted with the sight of a pile of blankets on the floor. You turned to him in confusion, wondering if laundry had been the surprise. He walked past you and kicked the blankets lightly.
"O-o-o-oh what the fuck," replied a voice in another thick accent. There was a person under those blankets. A man sat up, he had a dangly cross earring and a neon orange sweatband on. "You call me here at this hour and then get mad when I need a little rest." The man turned to you, looked you up and down before mumbling good morning and laying back down to secure any warmth left in blankets.
Jay ripped the blankets off and threw them across the room. "Dude, come on, you promised."
A loud sigh exited the man's lips before he shuffled to his feet and approached you. As he got closer you immediately recognized him. He stuck out his hand as a greeting. "I hear Americans like handshakes. Hi, I'm -"
"Crush," you interrupted, eyes wide with shock. Jay was grinning ear to ear in the background.
"I think he has the vibe needed to elevate the song. Hoody already has an R&B vibe, so why not invite one of the kings." He was right. ZionT was pushing relevance. and Dean would overshadow every artist he gets paired with. Crush had a nuance to himself that allowed others to take the spotlight.
You couldn't believe Crush was standing in front of you. Memories of dancing to "Hug me" in your college door room filled your brain and this proved to be nothing short of a dream."
A sheepish smile appeared on Crush's face as he slowly retracted his hand. "Seems we are already friends."
It was a normal introduction for a weird day. Crush proved to be a little .... Strange. He carried around lucky charms and would randomly sing to himself for songs that he was working on independently. He was a genius, but a little eccentric. He wanted to mix in falsetto and asked if we could slow down portions for his part, or strip the music to bare bones. Jay said yes to his every request.
You didn't know where this was going at first, and you took notes on everything he asked for, anything that couldn't be done now would get tweaked later. He saw you writing notes before sighing. "I can do this all now if you would like."
You looked up from your notepad and he was already tweaking things. It was.....rude almost. But Jay eyed you up and down, and gave you a look that said to behave. Something about that look made you so angry, you wanted to challenge him, and yet you listened and let Crush work.
He was quick with his work too. He bobbed his head in an exaggerated fashion and listened keenly. Very suddenly, he pressed some buttons and turned knobs and the track changed completely for 10 seconds before he let the melody come back. He stepped away to the computer nearby and hit save, confident that you would like the changes. Maybe your eyes gave away your pride's dissapointment but he cracked a goofy grin and said "You will love it, I promise. If you don't, you can hit me, and I'll buy all the beer when we have the release party." Some apology. But you are still new and must accept it.
Just as quickly as the goofy smile appeared, it vanished and Crush asked for some privacy to work on his part, ALONE.
Jay once again grabbed your wrist and led you out. "Hoody won't be here for another hour, but I wanted you to meet him before then."
The initial starstruck had worn off, and the shock from his personality had cleared. Mr. Park was really pulling out all the stops to get this song to be a hit, but he always worked hard on every song. If it had his name on it, he wanted it to be the best. And if his best wasn't good enough, he would have the peace of mind of knowing he had given it his all. It was admirable and respectable.
"I need your help."
You had been focusing too hard on not tripping because he had been walking so fast towards the other side of the floor. "H-huh."
His eyes were wildfire again. "I need your help."
"With what?"
Everyone at this company was so talented and a little scatterbrained. People would be spread thin working on multiple projects at once, in different departments. But it meant they had control over every aspect of their artform.
"Dance with me."
You blinked twice. There were literally so many other people he could ask to do this. So many were more talented, instead of the jack of all trades that you were.
"I'll keep it clean I swear." Golden embers danced in his dark brown eyes, fire. "Last time we danced together was some of the best creative energy I had in awhile. I respect you y/n, but I need your help. This is your song, and I want it to go well. We already have heavy hitter artists with vocals, ChaCha's name on the track. We need the dance to carry the same energy as the song. Who better to get the energy right than the woman who created it."
How could you know he was telling the truth. But it didn't matter to you either way. This was what you wanted, creative control. The ability to show off your skills.
He put out his arm for you to grab and gave you a crooked smile. He looked like the bad kid in class ready to drag you with him into trouble. "I've started working on some parts. It's a two person dance. For the chorus before Crush comes, I wanted to capture the warm feeling of the song."
You stared back at him, hoping your eyes mirrored his defiance. He knew this was a tempting offer and how much it would mean to you. The professional advancements that would come with this were inspiring. You shrugged off your sweater, and placed your bag on the ground. Taking his arm you began to lead him to the mirror. "This is gunna be the cutest damn dance anyone has ever seen.
