"Ochako dear, is your stuff packed?", my Mom hollered from downstairs.
"All ready!", I yelled back running down stairs with a giant smile plastered to my face. We were going to the beach for the weekend and I was jumping up and down. I double checked to make sure I didn't forget anything. Swimsuit, sunscreen, beach towel, snacks, snorkel; wait where's my snorkel? I ran back upstairs and picked it off my bed.
"Gotcha!", I say to myself. Ok, now I have everything. I do one last scan before we hop into the car, oh my necklace! I have this special necklace I always wear at the beach, it's a simple rope necklace with a beautiful pink tinted pearl at the center with little pieces of sea glass surrounding it.
At the Beach:
As soon as we set up our spot I sprinted and jumped into the water, it was so soothing on my face. I used my quirk to float up into the air and drop back into the water creating a splash! My Dad gets in the water next and starts splashing me so I drive under the water and come back up with another splash to the face.
"Dad! Stop!", I say giggling!
He has a goofy smile on his face as he continues to splash and play with me in the water. My Mom reads her book on the beach towel but comes in to play too!
After many Hours of Playing:
My parents were tired and we were about to leave but I went in for my last swim, but I started to get pulled in by the tide. I was about to float myself out of the water but I got hit by a wave forced underwater. My vision was getting dark, I needed to get to the surface! I started panicking and I tried to swim up and another wave came down. All I remeber is hitting my head on something and after that, black.
My head was throbbing and my legs felt funny. Then some girl with deep pink eyes is looking at me, who was she? Wait a sec. . .
"Holy moly, your a mermaid!", I shouted.
"False, we are sirens. Being called a mermaid is highly offensive.", she pouted; and huffed at me?
"Your welcome.", said another siren with bright orange eyes said to me.
"Huh?", I replied. "I don't remeber anything except I blacked out. . .", I said.
"We saved you!", said the orange eyed siren.
"Oh, t-thank you.", I said, I'm so confused.
The cave we were in was very musty, it was lit up with this beautfiul glowing algae. There was a dark spot in the cave where I could see the brief outline of a person? Maybe another siren.
Then I heard her; "But nothing comes without a price. I'm sorry but the only way to save you in time was to turn you into a siren too; well hybrid siren. More commonly known as the Siren's Curse by humans.", I saw a sly grin spread across her face when she saw the horror on my face. That's when I looked down.
"Oh my gosh!", I was hypervenalating. "But what about my family, my friends, am I stuck like this forever?!", I was freaking out!
"You'll survive, but you need to calm down.", said the sweet pink eyed siren.
"First off my name is Zillia, this is Willow."gesturing to the orange eyed siren on her left. And on her right "And this is Pearl" she pointed to the siren that was sitting in the shadows. Once she walked out of the shadows I noticed her pure white eyes and charcoaled colored tail.
Pearl began explaining the basics, "So first off your only half siren so if you completely submerge in ocean water you'll shift. And everyday at sunset you'll also shift back into your siren form. Second, beign a siren comes with it perks. You will have the singing voice of an angle but with a drawback of being able to hypnotize people. Oh yeah to survive you have to absorb parts of souls. . .", Pearl said so casually looking back at me.
"Souls?!", I cried!
"Yes, depending on the kind of soul you absorb with affect yours. Pure soul, pure energy, but in doing so it takes some of the other person's soul away. Not absorbing souls will cause you to make the need for them stronger. Think about a vampire not drinking blood for a while; then their thirst gets stronger. Remember the type of souls matter, absorbing the souls of the bad will make you one too.", Pearl stated rather quickly.
"Oh yes one last thing. Being a siren isn't like being a mermaid, you're soul will get darker the less pure souls you get. If you don't control it you'll go insane like I mentioned earlier.", Pearl told me. "Ok, it's almost sunrise and that's should've been everything you needed to know. Bye!", Pearl said. The other sirens also said bye and disappeared into the water and I swam back to shore to make sure no one saw me.
Once the Siren's Curse dispersed I saw my parents on the beach with some pro hero's looking for me. What am I going to do? Ok If they ask, my excuse is that I was pulled out by a riptide but finally was able to float back to shore and passed out due to exhaustion. Ok, time to put my acting to the test.
"Mom, Dad!", I yelled running over to them and embracing their hug
"Sweetie, we we're so worried about you!", my Mom seemed on the verge of tears.
"We're so relieved your ok, Ochako.", my Dad said to me with worry in his eyes. If only they knew what really happened. After finishing up the case the pro hero's left but one of them walked over to us.
"You got pretty lucky girl, there's rumors of sirens around here.", the hero said.
"R-really?", I said quaking with fear. My acting was on point, I even convinced myself. I just had a thought, how am I gonna to hide this from my teachers at UA, they're like flipping ninjas when it comes to secrets. Not to mention the other students will question you until you spill the beans.
What was I gonna do?!
