Ritual Name: "Don't Look Behind You" alternatively "Don't Turn Around"
Risk Level: Fair
This game involves the summoning and calling of spirits....
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝...?
- Two sources of light: Your two light sources should have two different methods of being powered. [Example: Source 1 is battery powered, source 2 needs to be plugged in]
- Something that is from or reminds you of your childhood.
[DO NOT use a doll or stuffed animal, do not use anything that a spirit can remain in]
- Chalk.
- A quiet space to play.
- Something that makes a noise [Optional]N O T I C E S:
- This game needs to be played in complete darkness, if and when playing inside- Cover any and all reflective surfaces.
- You will need a decent set of rules to provide the spirit that you make contact with. There will be a decently strict set provided below.
- This can be played solo, or with a small group of people.
- You should not play this game if you've played other games that involve entities or spirits attempting to catch you. (Example: Daruma-san, Midnight Game, Dry Bones...)
- It is unknown what happens if you lose, and the spirit catches you. Games like this are usually wagering games between player(s) and the spirit(s).
- To make the game both easier and- in my opinion- slightly more off putting, placing something that makes noise behind you on the floor to give you the advantage is acceptable. The purpose is that if something is within about an arm's (or foot's) reach of you, you will know.
- There should be both a set list of rules, and play area size. I will provide some specific rules below, but the area size can be determined by the starting position...S T E P S
1. Hide and/or keep your second light source somewhere on your person; such as a pocket, a handbag, ect.
2. Clear your play area of any clutter or furniture that can obstruct your hearing or confuse you.
3. Mark the seeker (spirit)'s starting position in chalk. (You choose the distance)
3.5. If you are using an object (or objects) to alert you to the "other player", then place/scatter them on the floor about two to three steps behind you.
4. Hold the childhood item in one hand.
5. Turn off the lights.
6. Facing the wall of your choosing, say..."I want to play a game. You must begin on the marked area. I will count to [choose your desired play time] before I turn around. When I turn around, you must freeze. You may only move when I am not looking, and you may only move one step at a time. The game ends when the light comes, or when you touch my right shoulder..."
7. Close your eyes.
8. With your eyes still closed, and while you're still facing the wall, count to your desired number.
9. Turn around, and listen. If you feel as if something is close enough to you to reach or touch you, turn on your light to end the game. [In the event that your primary light source fails, use your second one]S A F E T Y R I S K S:
- Whatever plays the game may not leave when you shine the light, and may still linger and follow you afterwards.
- Remember to pick up the objects you left on the floor, so that you don't hurt yourself.M Y O P I N I O N S:
I've actually played this one before, and while it is kinda nerve-racking (since you're playing in the dark, and just hoping you have the timing right) its also a really fun party game. I would recommend playing with at least 2 other people, as that's the group size I played with. For extra fun, play it without the alert objects; that way, you're just relying on your senses.
[Last time I played this was in 7th grade at a friend's house, we turned on the lights maturely out of fear of being taken to some astral plane]
