"WHAT did we bring home with us?" asked Edmund in a low voice.
"We never should have taken it home with us. We never should have gone up the mountain. We never should have entered the cave," mumbled Isabel in her seat.
The human soldier, Roderick, raised his head to look at the other soldiers and at the ykarrians who sat beside him inside the heavily-armoured vehicle which moved across the rugged terrain. Their worn out faces covered in dust and blood.
Some of the ykarrians are too young for this hell they're facing. Their wild, bewildered eyes darted from one place to the other. The young soldiers' ragged breathing filled the vehicle along with their soft sniffles. They looked no older than 17. Their knuckles looked white from gripping their guns too hard.
The soldier looked out the window and saw bodies scattered everywhere. The invisible monsters ripped meat off the corpses before swallowing, the meat disappearing down the creatures' throats. The humans never saw what the monsters looked like. The ykarrians can see them and judging by the horrified looks on their faces, the humans can only be thankful that they cannot see what they're at war with.
The soldier glanced at Isabel who sat in front of him. She fidgeted with the gun strapped to her chest. Her wide eyes stared crazily at the floor. In a barely audible voice she mumbled,
"What have we done."
