tears on soft skin leave scars

Closing my eyes tight while the knife swiftly cut the onion in half revealing the many beautiful layers while also awakening the evil within. The sulfurous smell of the gas filled the room invading the tear ducts of my eyes. I felt my eyes begin to sting, it was too late now the toxic gas had already penetrated the tight seal I had on my eyes . Slowly opening my eyes tears began to stream down my face, dripping onto the cutting board.

My reddened eyes were stinging and it was taking all of my strength to keep the open. Quickly chopping up the rest of the onion into a fine mince I rushed over to the sink putting my eyes under the cooling stream of water relieving me of the sharp sensation and streams of tears.

The pain was all over. All my tears have been shed. My lover is sitting in pieces in front of me. Not sure whether to feel joy that I don't have to experience that pain anymore or morn the lose of my best friend.

I picked up the cutting board scraping the remains of the once whole golden onion into a bowl full of lettuce, avocado, mushrooms and many other delicious salad food items. The fragile golden skin just gets disposed of in the bin. Packing away the salad into take-away containers saving it for later.

I just stand there at the open fridge door blankly staring at the packed away salad. Thoughts of my journey with the onion run through my head starting from the moment we first touched and ending with the tears running down my face. I will never forget him. I close the door leaving the painful memories behind and starting a new. Although the tears have been washed away the scars on my heart still remain.
