Chapter One > Pretend
"Let's pretend nothing happened
and everything is okay."

Richard and Dawn both stood silence. Richard on the inside was breaking in pieces. He was tearing apart. Dawn looked at him and gave him a smile - a smile that was different. Beautiful indeed, yet its full of sadness and hatred.

"So...Rich." Adam said breaking the silence between Richard and Dawn. Richard looked at Adam and sighed.

"Yeah? Uhm, sorry..It's just, I remembered something." Richard

"Richard, since you've mentioned that you need a new model for your clothes, I was thinking of Dawn's daughter, my step daughter. Maybe it would be a great idea for our company to be partners." Adam

"Yeah! That's a great idea. She can totally be our new model, and I bet she looks beautiful just like her mother," Richard glanced at Dawn and smiled "Step father ka Adam?"

Dawn looked at Richard in annoyance. She sighed heavily and tried to change the topic.

"Are you that ru-" Dawn was about to finish what she was going to day when Adam interrupted.

"Yes, step father. The guy who left Dawn and her daughter is a coward. Gago nang lalaki nayun. But thanks to him, they're both mine." Adam

Something hit in Richard's heart. The words Adam just said hurt him so much. He wanted to know who his daughter was, and wanted to see her. But he knew Dawn doesn't want him to be part of their daughters life. Adam excused himself to go to the bathroom.

Dawn and Richard kept looking back in forth to eachother. Both studying eachothers faces, after 14 years. 14 years. Richard talked, his voice almost quiet.

"Im glad you're happy now, Dawn. I truly am." Richard

"Thanks, and I'm glad you're doing fine.." Dawn

Richard was going to respond when his phone rang. He immediately turned it off, he wanted a chance to talk to Dawn again. He wanted to hear her precious voice, the one who he could listen to all day - if he can.

"Bakit mo naman binaba agad?" Dawn

"Ah, wala, hindi naman yun importante.." Richard "Dawn, can I see her?"

"Richard, stop. Wag ngayon. Adam doesn't know about you and so does our daughter. Pwede ba? wag ka muna manggulo." Dawn

"Can I at least know her name?"

"You're gonna meet her. Siya nga diba ang bagong model? She agreed to this and I did too, knowing na gusto mo siya makilala, even when you never wanted her."

"Dawn, I'm sorry. Im sorry. I want to win you back, I want you back. Can we start over again, will you give me another chance?" Richard

"Really? Really Rich? After all those years of taking care of our daughter, you weren't there. You we're never there. I'm happy with Adam. Happier than I was with you."

Dawn walked away from Richard and went back to her car. She was still beautiful, Richard throught. Still the same girl he fell in love with. Still the same girl who called him babe. Still the same girl who owned his heart.

Richard went home, tired and the scene of him and Dawn talking repeated in his mind. He was laying in hed when someone walked in.

"Honey, Tara na, it's time for our date. I've missed you so much, Hon."

"Im too tired for today.." Richard

"Ano ba ang nangyari sayo?"

"I talked to someone. Someone who changed my life." Richard

The woman walked closer to Richard kissing him on the lips. The door opened and a teenage girl walked in and smiled.

"Dad... So, who's the new model for our company? Who am I going to be working with?"

"Dont worry sweetie," The woman said, "I promise you, you're still going to be the star of our company. Im sure your dad picked a girl who's not going to ruin your career."
