You were staring off into space and it just happened to be in the direction of the most popular guy in the school, Aiden Calloway. He turned towards you and winked, you laugh in suprise that he would do that. Someone taps your shoulder and you turn to see johnny sitting next to you.
"Oh hey johnny!" you say in suprise, a light blush spreading across your cheeks. You had really hoped that he hadn't seen that, he would never let you see the end of it.
"Still glancing at Aiden from a far I see," he says in a bored tone. He picks up his slice of pizza and eats it while looking at you. " I don't know what you see in him." johnny says exasperatedly.
To tell you the truth I don't really like Aiden and I know he doesn't like me either, we just play around when we know that johnny is around because it makes him mad for some odd reason. Aiden and you were actually really close considering that he was the only person that knew about your crush on johnny.
"He's cute and sweet, two qualities that you seem to lack." you answer while taking a bite out of your pizza.
"I can be sweet and I am cute. It just has to be around people that I actually care about." he retorts with a smirk emphasizing the word care. You look at him in shock, and for the first time you couldn't detect the difference between him joking and him being serious. You had thought your relationship meant something to him, the relationship full of jokes and sarcasm.
"That's nice to know." you say in a clipped tone while getting up to leave. As you get up you notice johnny looking at you in confusion, you just roll your eyes and continue to walk out of the lunch area. Once you get to a secluded area in the hallway you sink down onto the floor and start crying silently. Why did I care so much? That was our relationship. You heard someone softly ask you if you were okay and the voice sounded oddly familiar so you turned to see Aiden there with a look of concern.
"What happeneed back there? All I saw was johnny's usual expression and then you getting mad and leaving." he says in a rush.
"He basically said he didn't care about me, he said he didn't care!" you exclaim sadly.
"I'm sure he was just joking y/n. You know how he is, he just goes too far sometimes." he reassures.
"I guess." you say lamely while wipping the tears off your face.
"Come here." Aiden says with a soft smile while motioning towards him. You walk towards him in short small steps until eventually you are enveloped in his warmth. His brotherly hugs just make you feel right at home, you relax and snuggle closer to him. He whispers words of reassurance to you just like a big brother would.
"What are you two doing?!" you hear an angry voice exclaim. You turn to find johnny standing there with a look of shock, anger, and jealousy. Wait...jealousy? He couldn't care about you, not even as a friend, he made that much obvious.
"Why do you care?" you ask bitterly. You had clenced your fists so hard that your knuckles were starting to turn white. Aiden whispered into your ear telling you to calm down. Seeing this gesture just seemed to make johnny furious.
"I care because–," he starts nervously before you cut him off.
"Because what johnny? I don't have all day." you snap.
"Because I love you y/n!" he yells. You look up at him and you notice the close proximity between the two of you. You both were breathing heavy because of the intensity of your conversation, you look over only to see that Aiden is gone. He probably felt awkward, if he were in this situation and I was a bystander I would be too.
"So you do care..." you whisper more to yourself. He looks at you with a solemn expression and nods, confirming what you said.
"I love you too." you beam at him. You two just stand there in each others embrace and in that moment you were greatful for his sarcastic comments. This would have never happened with out that one retort. You just smile softly and move closer to johnny relishing this moment.
