Screaming of mothers. Weeping of children being separated from their families. A command by a loud voice, before everything went black.
That's all I can remember when I wake up. Who am I? One look at the scales on my skin and another question attacks me. What am I?
It's cold in here. I am restrained to a gurney with needles in both my arms. Taking a closer look, the liquid looks like a silvery substance. My veins are popping and are a striking black colour. How did I get here?
The room is darkly lit with a single exit. One part of the room is crowded with machines. The walls are a spotless white yet my clothes have blotches of dried blood. Everything hurts. I try to move but I'm constrained.
There is an oxygen mask on my face connected to a tank. How quaint. There are bubbles coming out of my mask. Am I underwater?I am trapped in a tsunami of questions. The feeling of drowning, consuming me whole. I feel incomplete.
The red light above the door flashes twice and an alarm blasts through the speakers. Suddenly, the door is opened by two guards. They had flippers for feet and seemed to be swimming. They had scales just like me too however, they didn't need oxygen tanks to breathe. As soon as they moved out of the way, a lady was revealed. Or a Goddess, I think. She held herself with grace and superiority. Her face was covered by a mask giving her an aura of mystery. Her body was slender and instead of flippers, she had a tail. From her head to her waist, she could've been mistaken for a human yet, her majestic and embellished tail added to her powerful appearance.
Without a glance at me, she spoke. "Glad to see your awake, Subject #10. I trust you've had a good rest? It's time for a higher dosage."
I try to speak but my throat is too dry. How ironic when I'm surrounded by water. I watch silently while she messes around with the machines. It makes strange noises.
Then a huge surge of pain courses through my veins as the strange lady walks over to my gurney. I could only make out her eyes and mask through her mask. They say eyes are the windows to the soul; however, when I looked into her eyes, they held nothing. They were emotionless. Her lips pulled back into a menacing smile as if she were enjoying my suffering.
At last, she spoke.
"You are my secret weapon to winning this war, Honey. Do not fail me as the others have."
And with those final words, I was once again engulfed into a pit of endless darkness.
