Keefe and Fitz gasped again and quickly ran faster into Foxfire, hurrying and hoping that Dame Alina hadn't seen them.
Then, when they were in the safety of the school, they peered out and stared at the figure. It was floating through the air, as though it was levitating. But, as they looked closer, they realized, Dame Alina didn't have any eyes!
Keefe's eyes widened and Fitz had to muffle his shriek.
The 2 boys walked silently toward the floating figure of Dame Alina and when they got to the point where she was only a foot away, they both sighed in relief.
Dame Alina wasn't actually there! It was only a floating straw figure that had somehow gotten stuck on the lanterns beside the gates.
Fitz whispered to Keefe, "Well, that was close. Should we move on?"
Keefe gulped and then his cheery apposition returned, "Sure! So, we'll go to the Level One lockers first, right?"
Fitz looked confused by how Keefe had changed really quickly but he nodded and followed Keefe as the crazy boy yelled, "Onward ho!"
Fitz sighed, "Poor Keefe. His brain is going crazy."
Keefe retorted, "As though your brain isn't already crazy!"
"Um. How dare you! You're the one who pretended that you were a weird Ancient and said 'Onward ho," not me!!"
The 2 boys quarreled and snickered and argued for the rest of the trip and they they reached the Level One lockers.
They kept gulons randomly through the halls as they ran and danced wildly, bright smiles on their faces.
They were having the time of their lives.
And Keefe laughed and laughed and laughed until his sides hurt.
Fitz smiled at Keefe and they wished that this moment would never end.
But of course it would have to at some point. Keefe would go home to Lord Snootyface and his strict mom.
While Fitz would go home to a caring, loving family. He could laugh with Biana about his adventure with Keefe and he could play base quest or bramble with Alvar.
Keefe suddenly sighed.
Fitz turned towards him, midway through plopping a gulon underneath a locker.
"What happened?" Fitz asked.
Keefe suddenly realized that Fitz was watching him, "Oh nothing, I was just thinking about how I wish I could have my own gulon." he lied immediately.
Though, it wasn't completely a lie. He really did want a gulon after all.
"That's what you're worried about? Well, we finished and we still have one gulon left, so I mean..." his voice trailed off as a smile crept onto Keefe's face.
"I want it! I'll take it home with me!"
Fitz laughed and handed the bucket to Keefe.
"Hey! I never said I wanted to carry it! You can do it!"
And... again the bickering began. Back and forth and back and forth. But at least they were enjoying it?
At last, their mission was complete after several weeks of planning!
So, they walked out of the school once again and heaved sighs that were filled with joy and happiness.
Then, they both waved to each other and lightleaped home.
Keefe hoped that Fitz wouldn't get caught while he went to Everglen.
He wasn't worried about himself though! He would never get caught, for he was the prankster behind the Great Gulon Incident!
