Philza always had a love/hate relationship with winter. On one hand, it was incredibly beautiful, the frozen crystals filling the air, the nights by the fireplace, and the days spent inside with family and loved one. But that last one had left Phil long ago, leaving him to spend the season alone. However, Phil was not a bitter man, at least not yet. He believed everyone deserves a warm place to stay the winter, a family to enjoy the spiteful season with. As Phil approached the local bakery, he was pulled out of his thoughts. As he entered, the woman behind the counter smiled and welcomed him in.

Bakery employee:

“Hello, welcome to our bakery! Is there anything I can get for you?” The woman spoke in a german accent, seemingly having some relation to the country.

Phil:

“Yes ma’am, I’m here to pick up an order for Philza, it should be a challah and some brioche.” Phil spoke softly, not wanting to disturb the calm aura of the small shop.

Employee:

“Oh, yes, of course, I’ll go get that for you” The woman walked to the back of the shop, presumably to get the bread. As Phil took a seat, a small girl ran down the stairs.

???:

“Mutter, sieh dir an, was ich gezeichnet habe!” (Translation for those curious: Mother, look what I drew) Phil looked at the girl slightly confused, unable to decipher the foreign language.

Phil:

“Well hello, little one. What's your name?” The little girl looked confused, but eventually figured out the question. In a quiet tone she replied…

Niki:

“I’m Niki, who are you?” The girl seemed shocked, not expecting any customers to be in the shop at the current time.

Phil:

“I’m Phil, you mother just went to the back to pick up my order.” As phil said this, Niki’s mother came back with two bags

Employee:

“Here’s your order, sir.” The woman reached across the counter, handing Phil his bags and accepting his payment. As Phil exited the shop, the little girl, Niki, said…

Niki:

“Bye Mr.Phil, come back soon!” The girl then turned to her mother “Habe ich es richtig gemacht, Mutter?” (Did I do it right, mother?) Phil continued walking, a smile brimming on his. As he walked, he suddenly stopped in his tracks.

Phil:

“I could have sworn I heard someone screa-” There was another scream, followed by an ominous silence. Phil ran towards the direction he heard the scream. As he looked down the alleys, he found the one the scream came from. What he saw, however, was not what he expected. He saw three people, around their 20’s, laying in the snow bloodied, and a pinkette, no older than 10, running out of the alley. It was clear the guys on the ground were thugs, so Phil felt no obligation to help them, but he was intrigued by the kid. Without hesitation, he started running after the kid, trying to wrap his head around what he had just seen.
