The monk explained the many chores to be done, and I obediently did them with total apathy in my features. It didn't bother me at all because I finally felt relaxed and at ease. Not having to worry about safety, studies, and what comes next was relaxing; and my ears weren't filled with the pain staking sounds of traffic, voices, and random, annoying noises of a bustling city. I sighed as the sunlight caressed my face, a chilling breeze blowing the heat off my back.

The monk had tried in vain to get me to put on a kimono or at least a hakama, which was the traditional clothing of a shrine maiden. Every time he asked, I just gave him a death glare, and he got the message. He was wearing a purple samue with beads in his hands.

For the past few days, that was the routine, but I would have to find a way to sneak out tomorrow night because of the change. I sighed. I'm not going to bother myself with that right now. I'll just make a bee line for thick woods before the moon shows its face. I was enjoying the beautiful morning when my hair stood on end. This feeling... I've had it before... With Inuyasha. Except this one's different... It's much worse, and it's closing in very fast. I ran into the shrine to find the monk looking frantic.

"Diasuke?" I addressed, walking in stoically. "There's something-"

"Coming, yes." He finished. I stood calmly. "Here," He handed me a beautiful, crystal necklace that glowed with intensity.

"What's this?" I asked as its glow intensified with my touch.

"Just keep it from the monster that's after it." He said as he hooked it around my neck. It was like a choker of blue crystals.

"What are you going to do?" I asked as he grabbed more beads and another object resembling a staff. "I'll distract him while you escape." He said. "Oh and one more thing abou-"

BAM!

There was a loud bang at the front, and he pushed me out. He was going to say something about the necklace. What is it anyway? I looked down at it and stroked it with my finger.

"Where is it?" I heard a chilling, cold voice in the room with the monk.

"You'll never have it!" He said defiantly. "Ahhh!" He screamed. I heard the monster streak out of the room and back towards the village. I ran out from my hiding place. The monk had been sliced by what looked like claws, and poison dripped from his wounds. He was as good as dead.

"Oh my." I said. I took the old man's hand. "Don't worry, it will end soon." I said.

"Run." He said faintly as I took my claws and killed him to put him out of his misery. I never cared for people, but it was a good notion. I felt the presence coming again.

"Tsk." I dashed out the back and towards the cliff where I would make my get-away. I was halfway there when I felt him zoom past me and stop in front of me. Not wanting to knock heads with him, I didn't slow down, but instead, I jumped high over him, landed on my feet, and did a back flip to cancel out my momentum. I then continued to dash for the drop off. The necklace pulsed, and I could tell it had a certain power, trying to get me to unlock it.

"Get back here, Wench." I heard him say nonchalantly. I didn't answer him as I got to the end of the cliff. I had just pushed off when I felt an arm around my waist pulling me back. He threw me back, where he was blocking my path to the cliff. My eyes widened as I saw a tall man with long, silver hair; cold, golden eyes; a purple, half-moon on his forehead; and claws as sharp as mine. I reverted back to my cold expression as he gazed at me with apathy. He held out his hand.

"Give it to me." He demanded harshly. I just continued to stare at him because he smelt similar to Inuyasha, and I knew my apathy irked Inuyasha. He furrowed his brows in anger at me. He cracked his knuckles and lunged at me. I jumped out of the way, aerial kicked him, and jumped off the cliff backwards with my arms out to the side and feet straight. I saw his annoyed expression and smirked.

I landed in the water and swam to the nearest rock against the crashing waves. The necklace's glow intensified, and I began to float in midair. My expression never changed as my body began to transform. Pain shot through my sides as gill-like openings grew, and I gasped as my legs were replaced by a blue scaled tail. I felt the scales crawl up my back and through my hair. My claws tingled as my hands became webbed. My fangs grew longer, shooting pain through my mouth. I dropped back into the water and realized I had to adapt to the fin, so I could swim. A damn mermaid. What the hell. The necklace must have transmuting powers influenced by emotion. Wow. At least he can't get me now. I looked up and saw him giving me a death glare. I mentally smirked at my silent victory as I jumped out of the water and dove deep down.
