Chapter 15

ELENA’S POV

I run into the cave and my eyes immediately go to Jeremy’s body that is collapsed on top of the tomb.

“Jeremy!” I yell running over to him and pulling him into my arms. “Oh no. No, no, no. Oh, god, no.” I grab his hand and see the Gilbert ring, causing me to breathe a sigh of relief. “It’s fine. It’s fine. You’re gonna be okay. The ring will bring you back. It’s okay. It’s okay. You’re gonna be okay, Jeremy. You’re gonna be okay.”

DAMON'S POV

“How did this happen?” I ask angrily after Stefan fills me in.

“It was Katherine. She must have been following us this whole time.” He says as we stand in the upper part of the cave.

“Where’s Ashley?” I ask worriedly.

“I don’t know. She wasn’t in the cave.” Stefan says and my heart crumbles. I have to find her.

“What about the cure, or Silas? Bonnie?” I ask again, trying to think about anything other than Ashley.

“If there was a cure it’s gone. Silas is gone. Bonnie’s gone. Damon, Elena is in there waiting for the Gilbert ring to bring Jeremy back to life.” Stefan says slowly.

“Okay, fine. We’ll wait with her.” I say as I start walking towards the well.

Stefan puts his hand up to stop me. “Damon, listen to me. Jeremy was one of the Five, a hunter.” He says and I try to process everything he’s saying.

“He’s supernatural.” I conclude. This is not good. “The ring won’t work anymore. She won’t survive this. I’ll find Ashley. You get Elena and everyone else off this island.”

STEFAN’S POV

We found Bonnie as we were packing everything into the boats. She said she hadn’t seen Ashley which worried me a little bit and she seems to be a little off too. I’m not sure where she was or if she’s okay, but she seemed to be fine.

I dropped her off at her house and she said she would come by Elena’s house later. She apparently had something to do.

I walk into Elena’s house with Jeremy wrapped in a blanket in my arms.

“Hey, you’re home. I was trying to clean the burn mark where Kol…” Caroline says from the kitchen, but she stops when she sees me carrying a body. “I couldn’t get the spot out.” She whispers.

I shake my head a little bit at her, not wanting her to ask any questions right now.

“Come on. Let’s get him upstairs.” Elena says and I follow her up the steps.

I lay Jeremy down on the bed and Elena sits down next to him, grabbing his hand.

“Can I get you anything?” I ask her gently.

“No. I’m fine. I’m just gonna sit here and wait with him until he wakes up. Let me know if you hear anything about Ashley, okay?” She asks calmly.

“Yeah, sure.” I nod.

DAMON’S POV

I walk around the clearing where we had been keeping all of our stuff. I need to find Ashley and get her the hell off of this damned island.

I hear a rustling in the bushes and I quickly turn around.

“Unless you’re a pureblood hybrid, blonde Original, or a doppleganger, I suggest you steer clear.” I warn.

I walk over to the little shed and slowly open the door. I walk inside and look around. Suddenly Rebekah appears next to me and I jump a little bit.
