AMELIA

I stretch and look out the window. Birds chirping. 7 AM, they should be awake. I grab my crutches and go down the stairs by myself, making sure I am quiet in case they aren't awake. No one is up, it seems, so I head over to the kitchen. Wrapping my hair up in a messy bun, I look around and grab a frying pan. I search through the cupboards, hobbling around on one foot, looking for pancake mix. I don't find any, so I go by scratch. Dad used to love the pancakes I made by scratch, they were his favorites. Finding flour, baking power, salt and everything else I need, I begin mixing the dough. I drop a spoonful of the dough onto the hot frying pan on the stove. Dipping the tip of my pinkie into the mix, I taste it. Perfect. I flip the pancake and allow it to cook more. I pull out a plate and begin making a stack of pancakes. With six hungry boys, you need a lot of food. I hum to myself and look out the window above the sink. I hear footsteps.

"What are you doing, Amelia?"

I turn around fast and look down.

"Oh, just making some breakfast," I shy away.

He walks towards me and looks at the stack of pancakes.

"I'm Milo," he says as he holds out his hand to me and I shake it softly.

"Nice to meet you," I smile a little.

"You as well."

"Is it okay that I am in your kitchen? I didn't know if I wasn't supposed to be in here I just thoug-"

"Its perfectly fine, Amelia. I am sure that the guys will love this."

He walks over to the coffee machine and turns it on, pouring himself a cup of coffee.

"Might I ask, how old are you?" He asks.

"I am 17," I say as I flip another pancake.

I look at him and his expression widens.

"And you?" I ask.

"24. I heard what happened in the forest. What the hell were you doing out there all by yourself at such an early time?"

I ignore his question, acting like I didn't hear it. He doesn't ask again and he sits at the bar, watching me. A shiver shoots down my spine from his gaze. I look at the stairs to see Matthew and another boy coming down, Matthew buttoning his white dress shirt on the way. I look towards the window again, turning off the stove.

"Where's the syrup?" I question quietly.

Milo stands up and grabs the syrup from a cabinet above my head.

"Thanks."

He sits back down. Matthew raises an eyebrow at me as I put my hands behind me on the edge of the counter, leaning on it to take pressure off my ankle.

"What?" I smirk slightly.

"Nothing," he smirks back and sits next to Milo.

I try to grab the heaping place of pancakes but another boy does for me.

"I got it, don't worry," he smiles.

He sets the pancakes in the middle of the table along with the syrup and then grabs plates and sets them on the dining table. I hobble over to the table and Matthew pulls a seat out for me.

"Well, thank you kind Sir," I giggle.

I sit down among the boys and smile as they dive into their pancakes. Milo looks at me.

"Why aren't you eating, Amelia?" He questions.

"Oh," I shy away, "I'm not hungry."

Matthew looks at me with disapproval and abruptly shoves a fork full of pancakes into my mouth.
