The Mighty I

Chapter Twenty Six

A few weeks later, I was sitting on my bed reading when Rachel walked into our room. 

"Hey. Did you know Noel has a new song out?"

"No. And I don't care." I said without looking up.

"Well my friend is a fan apparently and he showed me a video of him singing it for the first time live last night in London."

I looked up.

"Ok?" 

"He dedicated it to you."

"What?"

"Before he plays it, he's like, "this is a new one. I wrote it for a girl that hates me named Kayla" or something like that."

I wanted to go on YouTube and watch it right then, but instead just shrugged and went back to reading my book. 

"Wow. You must really be over him."

I shrugged.

"Well my friend said the music video was premiering tonight if you're interested, which I guess you're not."

"Ok." I glanced at her.

"Ok. Well I have to get to my 3:00 class, bye."

"Bye."

I waited until she left then I grabbed my phone. I opened YouTube and typed "Noel gallagher new song". A couple videos came up from him playing it in London and it looked like the official video had just been posted. It was apparently called "The Ballad of the Mighty I". I took a deep breath and pushed play on the live video.

My heart was beating fast as I watched. He looked so good. He walked up to the mic.

"This is a new tune. I wrote it for a girl that fuckin' hates me. Imagine that? Hating me?" He joked and the crowd cheered then he continued, "Anyway, she fuckin broke my heart. And the sad thing is that I still fuckin love her. I love you Kayla."

The crowd cheered. I paused the video. Why was he telling the crowd he loved me? What about Sara? And, did he really still love me? I pushed play and they started playing the song.

I watched the whole thing a couple times then I decided to Google him to see if I could find out anything. A recent article came up that had a couple pictures of him drunk on a night out. I skimmed the article with my eyes and stopped when I saw the word divorce. My heart thumped in my chest as I read over the sentence. 

"This is the first time he has been seen publicly since his divorce. Gallagher filed for divorce from his wife last month and it was finalized last week." 

I just sat there with my heart beating fast. I didn't think he would go through with it, but he had. He was actually divorced. I found another article from a month ago. There were a couple pictures of him sunbathing and the headline was "Oasis rocker goes on holiday alone." I read through it and a part caught my eye.
