I would have walked through fire to kiss your lips
-Winona Oak (Song: Hope)
#I peer over at the ground beneath me and all that Im able to see is an ocean of utter darkness. I look back over my shoulder, Mr. Grayson is now pounding forcefully against the door, kicking into the it roughly and at this, I know for certain that the lock is going to give out soon and hell be able to break in at any second now and I highly doubt that hed be happy with me. I need to think fast. This quite literally is my one chance at survival.
The window is two stories high and jumping out could quite literally crush my skull into pieces. If I were lucky, Id fall on my legs and break an ancle or one of my bones. Maybe even both. But there is no guarantee. I push one of my legs over the ledge of the window and take in a deep breath. I curve my leg over the window sill and make sure to hold both of my hands against either sides of the wall before I take a dangerous leap into the dark unknown.
I say a quick prayer before raising my knees slightly and finally, I feel myself jumping off. As I jump off, my body twists and jerks. The entire world rushes by in such a blur that by the time Im about to land, I can already tell that the pain is com-ing and it will not be pretty. Not even in the slightest.
Thats when it happensthe impact. When I open my eyes, the darkness has completely embraced me with open arms. My entire body is now racked in an inde-scribable and unfamiliar amount of pain. I feel my bones move in a way that they most definitely shouldnt and my ribs poke right through my flesh harshly. Without even having to look, I can already tell that there is blood seeping through my skin from my legs, arms and even my head. My bruised stomach and thighs blend right into the thick lather of darkness and I dont move. I cant. Im far too badly injured.
"NAILEA! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?!" I suddenly hear Mr. Grayson call out. He's still in the house.
I try my best to gather any shred of strength that was left in me. I put my hand over my mouth in a dead attempt of drowning out my muffled moans and screams as the pain continues to worsen. Im not sure if the moisture I feel on my face is from the sweat or all the tears that are pouring right thorough me like a broken foun-tain. For a moment Im just stuck there on the ground, sweating and crying in abso-lute fear.
Every single last muscle in my body is now knotted up and the only assurance that I was even still alive was the night sky. I find the strength to wobble my way up slowly. Im no doctor but if I were to guess, Ive probably managed to break at least two ribs, one leg and one arm after jumping out of that window. Now torn, weeping as silently as I can, weak, bruised and broken, I start to move forward on only one working leg. The continuous pressure that Im applying on my now busted knee and ancle is torturously painful.
I continue to look back and make sure that he hasnt figured out I jumped through the window yet. I carry myself as far as I can go until after a few moments, I fall chest first into a big puddle of water. The fall knocks the wind right out of my lungs and I start to cough uncontrollably. As I start to blink away the splashes of muddy water, I hear footsteps and heavy breathing starting to catch up to me.
Quickly, with my one good hand, I push myself out of the mud, producing a loud and uncontrollable groan in the process. I turn back in despair and I still cannot see a thing. The only source of light is the agonisingly dim night sky. It is almost as if even the moon itself was too afraid to come out and shine over Mr. Grayson to-night.
Frantically, I bury myself into a thick shrub and begin to try and conceal my-self as well as I can. I need to rest my leg and call for help before he catches up to me and has his way with me.
"Nine one one, whats your emergency?", A reassuring female voice asks me on the other side of the phone call.
"Hello?", I try to be as audible as I can through my sobs but still remain quiet enough for Mr. Grayson not to hear me. I need helpI was kidnappedandand I just managed to escape but he has a gun and hes looking for me. Please—I cry— Please help me. I do not want to die
