dazai osamu: general relationship headcanons

warnings: general dazai things. mentions of suic!de, general season one spoilers (dazais power, his current job, etc)

dazai has always been a sap, that much was clear. constantly commenting on how spectacular you look, how you're so great at what you do, sweet comments like that 

while you played them off as him just being who he is, and flirting with every 'belladonna' he sees in eye sight, something was different 

if you're in the agency, he has a big impact on your life. constantly doing check ups to ensure you're not injured after a mission, if you're being targeted you can guarantee dazai will come to your aid and numb the others ability if it gets too much for you to handle 

outside of the agency, dazai doesn't like to talk about his job much. if you just so happen to have gotten yourself mixed up in the chaos, he will do whatever it takes to make sure you're safe at the end of the day 

but there was always something that strikes you odd about his behaviour around you. 

he's never asked for a double suicide 

going out to restaurants, parks or even just walking along the street, dazai would constantly run up to beautiful women and ask to adventure the afterlife together but he's never asked you while you're not necessarily complaining, you would have said no either way, it's a bit unsettling. what was your relationship with him and does he feel the way you feel?

you finally decided it was time to talk to him, these countless mixed signals was playing with your heart and it needed to be addressed, after he was done with his work, he decided to take you for something to eat 

you played nervously with your fingers, this didn't go unnoticed. dazai looked over at you with a smile, "is something wrong?" 

"why do you ask everyone else but me to do a double suicide . . . its a stupid thing to get upset over i know i just thought we had something . . . "

dazais eyes widen, knowing this conversation would have to be done sooner or later, he just thought he would have more time. he pulled the car over and parked it, moving his body to face you, he grabbed your hand into his and smiled once more

"i didn't ask because i wouldn't want that for you. you have so much to live for, the thought of being the reason you can't be here . . . you're too meaningful."
