Gojo's POV

A few days have passed since we picked up Penny from Tokyo. It's been three years already... three years I've been out of contact with her and finally today I can get one on one time with her. Itadori and the other two went on a trip to get rid of some curse which allowed our alone time.

Her face flashes behind my closed eyes. The way her hair frames her cheeks and the way she smiles when she's confused keeps surfacing in my head. She finally got rid of that old habit of hers, where she'd trace her fingers over her elbow whenever she was lost in that wondrous mind of hers. Her whole demeanor changed but her craziness still remains. She has matured in more than one way too...

No. I already decided not to think about her. The closer she becomes to me, the higher her chances are of becoming a hostage. I need to get ready for the day instead.

Timeskip~

I ended up arriving at our meet up place 10 minutes after the agreed time. Not that arriving late is unexpected of me. Penny's already there, talking to herself, with not a single opening for a surprise attack.

Her sixth sense of always knowing when I arrive kicks in and she turns to face me. "Good morning sensei~" she says in a sing-song tone, offering me a short wave. "Yo!" I greet back. Today, her long hair is shoved in a ponytail; her uniform nowhere in sight. She begins cackling, like always. Her laugh makes my heart beat quicken.

"Sensei! Did'ya see?" She says when she finally calms down. "I did a normal person greeting! Nobara-sensei taught me."

"Nobara-sensei?" I ask. "She's my sensei cuz she's gonna teach me how to be an exemplar citizen." Penny exclaims with excitement. "But Penny, an exemplar citizen would wear their uniform when they're supposed to." I point out.

"Oh." Is all she says. Genuine tears start falling down her cheek. Grabbing a stone from next to her seat, she hurls it in a random direction. "Fuck you too Eli!"

She turns back towards me, completely fine again. I love it when she does that. Her mood swings might be off putting to some, but to me they're absolutely alluring. "Gojo, I'll just have to be a delinquent for today. Even exemplar citizens have bad days."

"Oi! Where's my 'sensei'?"

"But you don't use formalities with your seniors so why should I? Also today is my delinquent day."

I stare at her for a second. "I can get away with it though." I say. "Well, so can I" she retorts sassily.

"Besides, you didn't see any issues with it three years ago. Speaking of which, how've you been these past three years?"

Flash back~

Elizabeth: age 13

(A/n: Elizabeth was Penny in her first life also this is kinda gory so skip if you want)

Elizabeth suffered a common disorder for a child in her situation. Simply put, she doesn't command her body, always being a passenger driver in a car leading her to destinations she doesn't want to go. In other words, she has DID otherwise known as multiple personality disorder. Her other personalities protect her from harm, taking over her body and controlling actions at any sign of danger.

For the most part, the danger is her mother Laura, a lady strong in faith to her cult. Due to Laura's obsession with the cult, Elizabeth was left home alone for days-weeks on end without food or basic necessities ever since she was a toddler. The time alone gave her a chance. A chance to learn like she so desperately wanted. Maybe the meaning of life, the answer the cult so badly wanted, was in a book. So she read and gained knowledge at every chance.

The cult's main objective is to find the meaning of life. Laura nearly killed Elizabeth a great deal of times to find the answer. Elizabeth is not allowed outside. Elizabeth is not allowed to disobey cult rules. Elizabeth is not allowed to consider herself a human. Many of these rules lead to insomnia, her getting DID, self harm, and other lasting mental disorders.

It wasn't until she was 13 when she was free. On that day, her mother had returned home early with a head priest of the cult. Elizabeth's stomach turns over. Everytime the priest visits, they try to find the meaning of life. A tear slips out of Elizabeth's eye. Her dazed expression overcomes her distressed one. What is the meaning of life? Must be the same as the meaning of death right?

That's why the cult decides to half kill her. How much torture can someone withstand before they die? How many times can one be beat and patched up until there are enough scars to last 100 lifetimes? How many fingernails are pried off before they pass out from pain? How many days of neglect can a child go through? Elizabeth's mistreatment over all those years has made her numb to any pain. A staple to the cheek can hardly be called painful. That's why she can still read even after being left outside for hours in winter. That's why her frostbitten fingers can still turn the pages. It's because she can't feel the pain anymore.

But Elizabeth is tired. 13 years of fear and abuse can only bring someone to insanity right? She can hear the priest and her mother talking downstairs. Elizabeth waits for another personality to overtake her body. Her other personalities handle the mental torture the best.

She waits but it doesn't happen. Footsteps can be heard drawing closer to her room. Her heartbeat speeds up. Is she going to face the abuse without switching? She begins hyperventilating. Her mind clouds as the thumping footsteps become louder than her heart.

Before realizing what she is doing, she opens her window and fumbles with the screen. The door to her bedroom flies open, revealing the priest. The cult wants to know the meaning of life right? So if Elizabeth dies right now she would know, and she would be more powerful than the cult. She stares at the priest and laughs. She would be more powerful than him. More powerful than her mother. With just one jump, she can be the most powerful.

The priest reaches out to pull her back but without a second thought she dives. The only chance at death for her would be landing on head since she's only on the second floor. The split second of falling before she hits the ground is her first and last second of freedom.

When she opens her eyes again, she is no longer a 13 year old called Elizabeth, but a baby named Penny.

A/N

Ok so i decided to add flash backs of Penny's backstory to chapters just so that you can get an idea of how she became crazy. An extra note is that the cult brainwashed Penny into believeing a lot of lies which also lead to her insanity: things like she isn't human and brainwashing her to believe that knowing the meaning of death is knowing the meaning of life. Also for anyone who was confused, DID is multiple personality disorder which pretty much means that when danger for the person arrises, another personality (also known as protector) will take over so that they wouldn't have to deal with the trauma. Some adults who have or had DID as a child can't remember a lot of the childhood abuse because of this. Just think of that one girl with braids from Danganrompa. Just know that in real life, the other personality doesn't have to be murderers (holywood often makes other personalities villains when in reality that's not as common).
